Alloy refurb in the York area

Featured Replies

As it says on the tin, looking to get my 18" Zenith alloy refurbished and geometry sorted out, after a lovely patch of black ice jumped out in front of me this morning and scared my car into the kerb emoticon-0106-crying.gifemoticon-0106-crying.gif:thumbdown:emoticon-0106-crying.gifemoticon-0106-crying.gif.

Anyone know of anywhere good and cheap or fancy parting with a single alloy?

Cheers for your time

Chris.

Ace Dentura in Leeds did all 4 of mine, excellent job done at my place of work and also a sound bloke.

Know of this http://www.ianjemison.co.uk/ because of rallying (runs a Porsche Boxter)I've no personal experience of them though.

Heard good things about these guys, they are in Bishopthorpe.

They take their time though so you may need to run on the spare for a day or two.

No sure they do geometry though...

They want £78 to refurb just one wheel? is that not a little steep? I have it in my head it should be roughly £50 per corner.

Yes, they are top end, but you know what they say, you get what you pay for.

I imagine that will come down if you have more than one wheel done.

I plan to use them after winter as all four of my zeniths are needing some TLC.

I'm sure there will be a mobile repairer that covers York that will be cheaper...

I can vouch for ian,i know him from rallying,he did some wheels for me years ago, very clever man,he will do a top job for you,you may even get a look at his porsche rallycar!

If you do get your alignment done in the york area can you let me know who you used & if you were happy with the work done as i need mine on a 4 wheel alignment as my o/s/r is wearing on the inside edge & i have a lot of rear tyre noise.

I normally get my tyres done at tech tyres but im not sure about the lads doing my 4 wheel alignment,i dont like people working on my car. lol.

Just remembered I had my alignment done at North Eastern tyres on Clifton Moor on their computer laser thingy. I had the usual inside edge/noise issue and they did it to coincide with purchase of new boots. So far so good - £35 if I remember rightly. Adrian was the man who seemed to know what he was doing as we agreed to *slightly* reduce rear camber from Skoda optimum.

Got the car booked in at Ian Brown's for the tracking, £48 for both axles seems a good price and have I used him for tyres, very cheap and good service, see how I get on?

Still looking around for the alloy refurb.

The car is driving fine, so hoping for a small bill in total, because if there is anything else, I will have to get it sorted as it will just bug the cr@p out of me, car's got to be stop-on :thumbup:

Please keep this thread updated, if you have a good experience when you find someone to refurb your alloy I'd like to know as I too plan on having all four done in the new year.

Tracking all done at Ian Brown's in Malton, had the NSR alloy balanced as well, all in £50  only down side is I will need to replace the damaged alloy as it is very slightly rippled  but it took the main brunt of the impact so no other damage to the car

Anyone have a spare 18" Zenith they would like to sell me?????????

For info you anybody I had my alloys done at a place in Castleford.

Blast down and powder coat in your choice of colour for 4 wheels: £100.

They are called LSN Coatings:

Phil

Wow, that's cheap, £25 per wheel?

And for powder coating too. I've heard this is supposed to be harder wearing than paint?

Just out of curiosity how long did it take, I need all four doing but am wondering how long they'll need as I'll have to leave my car with them.

Ah right.

Well I'm not 100% sure how it would work for you.

I dropped them off and left them there a few days as I had a spare set of wheels.

Also I gave them the bare set of alloys with no tyres.

If my spare set fits on yours then you could borrow them (they have tyres on them of 195/60/15 85H) and are off a Seat Toledo so they are 5x 100 fitment or whatever.

Phil

Ah that makes sense, most places do charge more to remove and refit the tyres. Still even so they still sound well priced!

I'm not sure when I'm going to get them done yet, I'll probably wait until they stop gritting the roads and get them done in time for hte summer for a bit of added bling :giggle:

Always good to hear of recommendations though

That is cheap, I paid £280 to have four wheels powder coated in Anthracite at the Wheel Specialists in Manchester, they did a great job but sounds like I could have saved myself a fortune.

I used the Wheel Specialists at Garforth to refurb the 15" Enkei's off the MX5 earlier this year,

It was a "drop the car off at 9.00, collect at 5.00" job. There was a discount from MX5OC, but without it, it would have been just over £200 for all 4.

Thus far i'm very pleased with the finish, it seems to be standing up well. I couldn't afford new tires at the same time as the refurb, but have just had a new set put on now and was able to see them "naked" so to speak, and all looked good. I had a slightly "flatter" silver finish done as i thought the brighter more sparkly VAG & BMW finishes wouldn't have look right on the 5.

Even the fitter (who i've known for years) said they'd done "a proper job!". He says he's seen some horror stories of refurbs :o

Guess we'll know more as we get through winter and we see what the salt and grit has done!
