vRS Review, 1 month & 1300 mile in

Featured Replies

After a 5 1/2 month wait I finally got my vRS just over a month ago with the following spec:

* Candy White with Black Roof & wheels

* Sat Nav

* Multi function Steering wheel

* Blutooth

* Cruise Control

* Digital Climate control

* Heated Seated Seats

* Electric Rear Windows

* Mats

With the 5% vat rate it was crazy not to make the most of the pretty cheap options list. I would have liked Xenon headlights if they'd been an option, but guess they've got to differentiate and justify the massive price increase to the Polo GTI, which is what I wanted originally, but couldn't justify the price difference.

To address some of the main posts:

* Heat lights - After reading many posts I was armed with a set of Nightbreaker Plus for when the car arrived, ran the car for a few days on the original bulbs, while not brilliant, they were much better than I was expecting and lead to believe. The Nightbreaker Plus while ok don't seem that much of an improvement

* Oil usage - After lots of reading on here have become paranoid about oil levels. Straight after collection i took a reading, just under full. 1300 miles later no noticable change.

* DSG - Absolutly brilliant! The auto takes all the grief out of the comute to work, leaving the more enjoyable stretches of road to enjoy the paddles. In reality the auto is that good in everyday traffic I find very little need for the paddles

* Interior rattles - I have one rattle which I've discovered is the glass/plastic over the instruments, asmall wedge of black card will sort that. I hear lots of complaints about the crappy interior finish, but for the money what the hell do people want. I recently ran a Volvo V70 which began life at almost 40k, thes the interior plastics were a better feel, but I still had more rattles and creaks

*Fuel Economy - Has only ever had Shell V Power, Mileage to date has averaged 35 mpg, for a brand new engine with this level of performance, I'm well impressed!

Think that covers (very briefly) main areas, other than to mention the dealer, Hayseldens in Doncaster have been great. From doing the deal, I was very organised did my homework, was very precise on the financials I wanted and was agreed upon without any faffing, made the deal quick easy and pain free. I emailed them last week to see what could be done about the door unlocking, the multiple pressing to open rear doors was doing my head in, I would reguarly end up with the windows half down. A swift response to bring it down when ever I wanted and they'd change it to one click open all. Did this at the weekend, having an interesting chat with Sales person and Service chaps while the engineer did the deed in a couple of minutes.

Think this makes me a happy Skoda driver

I put a link to some pictures on here a while ago, but here it is again

Thanks for taking the time to read

Other car brands manage to sell cars for a similar price and be rattle free.. pretty poor answer and almost justifies bad build quality? If you paid full price for the car which is well over 17k would you be saying 'what the hell do people want' and because you got a discount should that mean parts of the car should be WORSE because you paid slightly less lol?

Edited by adamc260

I'd take a little rattle or squeak I could stop in a couple of minutes to save several thou' over the equivalent VW. ;)

lol ignore adamc260 he now owns a rattly fiesta :D

FWIW - my vRS only has one rattle, glovebox related due to crap in it I need to re-arrange! :thumbup:

I think adamc260 had a bad egg, the Monte is a great car but not good enough apparently.

Point 1 = Incorrect

Point 2 = I did like the monte, wouldn't of waited months for it if I didnt? Define 'Not good enough', I would define 'good enough' as being able to be water tight or work on a day to day basis without fault.

Evena at full price, I'm struggling to think of another car on sale for a similar price that can tick as many boxes as the Fabia vRS. My nearest alternative was the end of production Focus ST's, but the high tax, insurance and fuel usage put me off.

What I mean is that from experience for any car to be 100% rattle free is pretty rare, even on BMW and Volvo's I've had in the past which cost twice as much have had their fair share of rattles. for the vRS instrument glass/pastic to rattle when driving over some of the shocking road conditions which seem to becoming the norm, is not something I'm getting overly worried about, life's too short, I will simply turn up the stereo which sound much better than I expected and enjoy the car for what it does best, let me have a blast and put a smile on my face.

I suppose each to their own, but I'd say if you want a Fabia that doesn't/should rattle then shell out the extra and get a Polo or A1. I'm just standing up for the car which overall I think is a brilliant package

Meh - think how mine rattles! :D I have to have the radio up pretty loud to hide them all! :D

Hence the bad egg... surely not all are bad?!

And the Fiesta is somewhat rattly - my best mate works for Ford and has had eight as test cars of which I have been in all of them and his mum has bought two from new and they aren't very good with trim falling off etc. I'm glad you like yours though :thumbup:

Nice review and echoes mine. My only rattle is the arm rest but nothing major. Still loving DSG and as you say is ideal for commuting. I often use auto for the drive in and paddles on the way home. Being an estate has plenty of space and carries weight pretty well. Economy has dropped a bit since it cold and when engine is warm I am booting it more but I'm more than happy with it. Nice to have positive reviews on here for a change :thumbup:

@ Martyn - you've overtaken me mileage wise looking at your 19 fill ups! :o

Edit - nope you've just filled up twice as many times as me but similar mileage!

Yeah only twice I've ever brimmed the tank. It's normally £20, £30 or £40

+1 on the stereo too. It's brilliant for what it is

The Armundsen + unit is great, love the simplicity of the unit. The Sat Nav woman is so polite as well!

I'm going to get some sort of blanking plate to velcro onto the front of the media in port to hide the ipod, suprised it doesn't come with some sort of cover

Nice little review, glad your pleased. Lets hope the car continues to please and no more rattles :rofl:

Got to agree about fiestas being rattley my mates has a fiesta gtr(£13000) (maybe had, smashed the other day by a drunk driver) and it feels like being in a tin can by all the rattles and thuds it makes
