Throttle Position Sensor Again

Featured Replies

Just getting ready to set off on my Xmas journey down south, VRS decides 2,000 RPM is the new idle speed, VCDS confirms the throttle position sensor is goosed. This was replaced shortly after I bought the car from west End Skoda. Quick phone call to their service desk, part not in stock, but will see what we can do.

Mark calls me back 10 minutes later, come in today at 1:50 PM and we will fit you in, and the part will be under warranty.

If only all garages were this efficient, and looked after customers like this. So naughty VRS, great dealer.

Thats the kind of service we should always get but sadly isnt.

Couldn't agree more. I dealt with the same VW garage in Bathgate for years. Then started getting the sucking air through teeth treatment when asking when they cold do work etc. The manager was great, but sadly the same could not be said of the rest of the staff.

West End Skoda treat you like royalty in comparison. Daniel and Eddie in sales are really laid back, no pressure in the sales pitch. Mark and Graham on service desk, top notch...

Think I will drop off a few bottles of wine as a thank you.

Yeah it's worth looking after them as much as they look after you mate.

Glad you're getting it sorted quick fast!

I wish I had a garage like that around here B)

The Skoda dealer (Simpsons) for me is just around the corner from where I work, which is handy. The parts guys and gal are tops. The service guys and gal.... always a bit of a mixed experience :)

All sorted. They sent someone into TPS in Edinburgh to collect the part, warranty job agreed by SUK, so all good. Dropped off two boxes of wine, karma and all that

Spent half an hour drooling over the Superb Estate in the showroom, lovely car, even if it was the best part of 30K OTR

Aside from customer service stuff, has anyone actually opened one of these sensors and tried to fix it rather than paying £70+ for a new one?

Has anyone got a pic of the part?

So here's a bit of research. Took my throttle out last night to have a look. Here's the pics below. As you can see the front face is screwed on into elongated holes suggesting that the throttle idle position can actually be manually set. I moved it round about half a millimeter and screwed it back on. Lets see how it goes. I'll report back this week with results.

I for one will be very interested in your findings.

One of mine is playing up again after being replaced 2 years ago.

DB.

Have you any update on the pedal throttle adjustment ?

DB.

Yip, Not had to lift the pedal up with my toe and no over revving or idle problems. Before this it was happening on every journey no matter how short or long.

Great but what did you do, I am sure there are loads of folk like me would like to know what to adjust.

DB.

I loosened the screws, moved the cover with the plug and pins on half a millimeter clockwise and tightened the screws back up.

Thanks, I will give it a go.

Sorry to go back to this thread but I am still having problems, I adjusted by 0.5 MM, however originally when accellerating the pedal only needed the slightest of touches with loads of torque from 1,500 rpm onwards. It's a 1.4 TDI 80 bhp, 64,000 miles BNV Engine.

After adjustment the torque has disappeared and the pedal needs pressing a fair way to accellerate and the car is very lathargic to drive. I have also been told the exhaust is slightly smokey.

I notice from one of the pics above that there are 4 copper contact areas on the pedal body, does anyone know what info they are sending to the engine. I am of the opinion that 2 of them may be electronically advancing the timing some how and they are not working.

According to a local VW agent there are no fault codes showing.

Can anyone throw some expert knowledge on the subject. I don't want to buy a new unit only find there is no improvement.

DB.

I might as well reply to this since I'm here. Did you only adjust the position and tighten the screws again?

I wiped the dust off the contacts on mine before putting it back together. I haven't had a single bit of trouble since although I think it took a few miles to recalibrate back to normal.
