should it be done everytime or every few years etc?

i did with every oil change.cheap as chips and if it gets the crap out and keeps your new oil in good nick ,then can't be bad ;)

how do you do it then, seeing as my car currently has no oil and the sump is in my kitchen i may do this.

how much does it cost?

No. You can't drain it all out after using it and what is left in the engine after using it will contaminate and degrade the performance of the good oil you then put in. In this context the Handbook specifically states that no additional lubricants may be added to the engine oil - which is what you are doing. The VW 503 00, 505 01, 506 00 and 506 01 oils most of us are using keep the engine far cleaner than 'regular' oils and negate the need to flush the engine routinely. Moreover, if it was necessary it would be part of the service schedule - which it isn't.

why did my dealer use it then??didn't ask for it,they did this as a matter of course

also doesn't it just thin/heat the oil to make it easier to drain/thinner,so less is left in the engine.what would you recomend then ?just drain the old oil hot/warm?

cheers

A very good question, particularly as an oil flush is NOT in the service schedule. As I have commented before, it sounds to me like they might sell Wynn's Engine Flush (or similar) and automatically tag it on to every service like my local Peugeot dealer did. That dealership had a notice on the service reception desk advising customers that the product was used on every oil change and you paid for it by default unless you said no in advance. Put another way, it is a way of boosting profits from unsuspecting customers.

cheers[/quote']In the past I have always carried out oil changes when the oil is hot so that it drains better. Although I come from a generation where the use of oil flush was commonplace, I wouldn't dream of using it now unless there was a specific need to - nor would I use any of the multitude of engine additives on the market. Instead I invest in LongLife oil and leave that to protect the engine.

mind you going by previous threads on here they used the wrong oil anyway(synta gold 5 star).

just goes to show that dealers are clueless as some of us.

cheers for the advice ;)
