Parrot MKI9000 and Swing

Featured Replies

Hi,

Today I finally bought and had professionally installed a PARROT MKI9000 in my Skoda Superb II. I was disappointed to see that the A2DP streaming is actually going through the PARROT built in amplifier (car speakers are routed to the PARROT unit and not the headunit) and as such volume control is done in the parrot (quite lame..)

I am sure there is a better way to install the PARROT and installer was kind and nice and I believe that if someone could share with me a good wiring diagram to get the A2DP streamed through the headunit to the speakers, the installer will rewire my unit.

PS1: The wiring was done by cutting the original car wiring :'( he did it before I had a chance to stop him - but at least he soldiered all the wires and got the properly isolated.

PS2: Cost of refurb unit + installation was $180 (with 12mo warranty)

As far as I'm aware it's not possible - the Parrot MKI series is all self contained in 1 box with it's own amplifier and no line out. I have an MKI9100 in my Fabia and it's the same. I would agree that the sound quality is not quite as good as that from the Swing stereo, one thing that I have found to make a big difference is to make sure that the volume on the device that you are streaming from is up pretty high -I find it sounds best if I'm on max volume when streaming from my HTC Desire.

I occasionally stream internet radio from my phone over Bluetooth to the stereo, and if friends have music on their phones and are wanting to play through the speakers while in the car. Other than that I use the MDI interface -it's got better sound quality, understands more file formats than the Parrot and is nicely integrated with the built in stereo

We have them installed in a couple of our vehicles and the sound goes through the parott unit, also the volume control is via parrot controls

The way its been wired is the way all Parrot units work, to go through the headunit you will need a totally different non parrot setup. I would have retrofitted the Skoda factory system for full integration into the cars electronics with full control via the headunit.

Hi,

Thank you all for sharing from your experience but I after I was got frustrated by the setup I followed the old ancient chinese proverb says - RTFM :giggle:

Look here

Parrot Product Guide

Look at page 5 - "Car stereo with line-in"

Apparently that can be done. What I really want to achieve is:

- When a phone comes in, or when I press the green dial button on the MKI9000, I would like the parrot to mute the radio and to use two front speakers

- When I stream music, I don't mind pressing "Media" and selecting AUX or whatever correspond to the line-in inputs available in the back of the radio.

Look here - apparently it's possible!

xda-developers

Now I need to figure out which line-in like interface to use:

There is the AUX-IN, PHONE(?!) and CDX..

Anyone have experienced connecting line in to any of this inputs?

Also, My air bag warning signal is on after the installation and when I look at the console screen it says "Air bag error" - anyway to reset it? (Obviously it was caused due to miss-reading after the radio installation)

Hi,

Well.. the drama is over and everything works fine now!

I have connected the parrot line out signals (white/brown and red/black) to the AUX IN L/R/GND (white/blue/brown) of the headunit I have (It's RCD310, but the RCD510 has the same connector). I've turned off "Music Streaming" which means that the parrot doesn't cut off my speakers when I play music and I can hear the streamed music (A2DP/IPOD) through the headunit where it get amplified. Sound quality is WAY BETTER and I get the wheel control for volume (but not for next and previous song - that's another module)

The aftermath is simple - always use SOT leads and don't use the built in parrot amp for music... its no match for your headunit amp.
