Emergency Repairs Possible?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Firstly happy christmas to you all. Unfortunately this post is a desperate call for help.

Whilst travelling to a family reunion some large part managed to come away from the underside of my car. I dont know the name of it but it sems to be a protective cover for the main engine parts between the front and back wheels.

Fisrtly - does anyone know what this is. Secondly, how can I manage to secure it back in place again so that I can travel home tomorrow without it dragging and making noise wherever I go.

Is it even safe to drive in this manner?

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Charlie

I would just pull it off, it is only a plastic undertray, get another one when dealers open later next week

Welcome to Briskoda. You might be able to carry out a temporary fix using plastic ties if you can jack the car up enough to reach underneath. That worked on my son's Bora.

+1 on both of those. It's mainly there to stop noise intrusion in the cabin & gives some weather protection too. If it won't rip off, they're usually held on with small torx screws. If you don't have the right size screwdriver a small flat head of the type that you would screw 13 amp plug terminals up with will usually suffice if they're not jammed in.

If you're going for the fix it back up option, even if the holes have ripped open that the spire nuts have attached to. There's often enough plastic remaining to make new holes & cable tie to.
