Key fob stopped working

Featured Replies

Just got out of my car after a drive, tried to lock the car with the fob, nothing. Red light on the fob flashes, car starts fine with the key, central locking works with the key

Spare key doesn't work either

Any suggestions before it goes to the dealer?

Anything unusual about today as the key works through a radio signal which can easily be jammed by something else unintetionaly or intentionaly.

Mine has done this 2-3 times in the last year. No Idea why either. I just locked it with the key, then it was ok half an hour later.

If this issue crops up again just put the key into the drivers door then lock it then unlockit using the key in the door ,don't push any buttons at this stage then remove from door, then start using the key in the standard way , hopes this helps you.

This happened to me too. Took it to the dealer and they'd only seen this once before. They reset a convenience control unit and changed it so one key press opened everything. Touch wood but been fine ever since

I'm experiencing same problem sometimes.

I'll give it a try

Ive just had exact same thing on mine. I tried everything then ran VCDS which shows 3 errors with the passenger and 2 rear doors. I cant recall the exact coding but it said something about signal from these doors. I cleared the fault scanned again and it came up again straight away. I disconnected the battery as a last resort for 20 seconds and all worked again. I will be scanning again to see if the fault still exsists though. It would appear that something has got confused. Ithink it may have something to do with the locking switch in the centre console.

We've had the same problem with our VRS recently....with child locks on the rear doors it means that we've had to rescue the kids through the front seat gap a couple of times...not a good safety feature! :-(

I had the same issue with my vrs, i.e. that the lock button didn't work at all sometimes.. Took it back to the dealer and they changed a relay that was faulty apparently. No issues since then.

I posted a few months ago about this identical fob problem, but the concept hadn't really caught up with everyone then. Mine does it regularly. I've had it reset to 1 click opens all, but it is still temperamental. Since the reset the boot often fails to unlock even though all the doors do, which is annoying when it's raining. On a few occasions the red light continues flashing on the door even though it's unlocked & opened, and a couple of times the alarm has sounded as well. Sometimes on starting the engine, all the doors seem to deadlock as well. It's all very mysterious, although I have a feeling it's connected to the boot latch device - this has been mentioned in one previous thread. It seems worse when it is wet/cold, which unfortunately is pretty much all year in the UK! The dealer is looking at it again soon along with the rattle problems which they are patiently working through bit by bit - I must say they have been really good & patient, so I don't understand the "stealers" reference some of you go on about, it seems a bit unfair really, and being impolite is hardly going to endear you to them is it? I still think the Fabia is extremely good value though, especially the SE Plus model. Compared to the Polo I had recently as a courtesy car, the Fabia is almost Tardis-like, and very much the better refined car.

Mine does exactly the same once in a blue moon
