forgotten password to laptop

Featured Replies

My dad bought my mum a laptop of Christmas, tested it a few month ago to make sure everythin was ok, set a password for her account and now he has gone and forgot It! Anyway way of gettin around it? It's windows 7

Unless you have an admin account you can get into, then not very easily.

Win7 is quite secure. Vista there are plenty of password hack apps.

Might be able to take it to a small independent computer shop and they will probably be able to sort it. There must be some way around it surely...

do a google search for a password cracker for win7... normally free (dont pay!!) download, burn to disc... runs a stripped down linux that reads the MS SAM.. its probably only what your local shop would use and charge XXX amount!!!

Could always do a system restore/reinstallation if it's a new laptop with nothing to lose on it. Should only take a couple of hours tops, and that will all be waiting around, rather than trying to get past the security.

If there is another admin account on there, log in using that and reset the password on the account for which the password has been forgotten. I normally keep a hidden admin account on all machines I build.
