fk streets

Featured Replies

Hi all i've bought a set of fk street coilovers for my fabia vrs i haven't attempted to fit them yet as it's due MOT on the 28th and i don't want to have to rush it as i have never touched this cars suspension before and the weather's not great i have had a quick look at my haynes manual and it goes on about disconnecting driveshaft nuts is this nessacery? I would of thought it would just be a case of undoing the top strut nut and lower bolts and disconnecting the stay arms and then just fitting the new strut any help, advice would be gratefully received.

Top mounts, lower strut bolts, drop links is all you have to undo. To remove the strut their is a vag tool you can use to open the hub a little.

You will need to compress one of the springs to be able to remove the strut. Can't remember which side.

The shaft removal is referring to the lack of play you get when trying to get the strut out of the hub.

I dunno if it's necessity as I haven't done the job yet. If its anything like the polo, you'll struggle to remove the strut from the hub more than the other. I didn't have a 'hub removal tool' though, so I don't know how much this aids the job more than prying it apart with a flat head.

I have the same coilovers, I fitted the fronts but they were a bit of a nightmare. However it is the first time I have fitted coilovers so you'll have to let me of :L

If I can remember correctly the you need to undo the lower strut bolt first and then jump on the hub to get it out and then undo the top mounts because if you undid both then you would have nothing to resist against. Also I would advise new top mounts which will save you taking your original struts of.

Other things you will need is lotsssss of copper grease, gt85/wd-40 etc..

And a final tip, don't bother putting the helper springs in if you want to go low :)

Then these coiles are NOT good when there not low, go over any bump then they are rigid as.. And also it doesn't handle well , hate to burst your bubble :L

Bubbles not burst dude jus see how it goes i'm not worried they weren't expensive :)

Mate been running these for a year they handle alot better over std, they go plenty low enough with the helper springs in unless you want no sump, one pointer, get some ibiza cupra/fr rear bump stops I found myself running around on mine for a week wondering why the rear was so bouncy lol, the std ones are too long. Check the link in my sig been running at this height no problems, still get the odd sump moment though.

Got a part number for cupra rear bump stops?

Just had these fitted myself and have them dropped fairly low! Deffo +1 on the bump stops pls!

I had these on my old Vento, for the price they were superb! Rode better than the Weitec's I had on my Golf!

Yeh! spot on, changed all mine to Ibiza cupra bushes + powerflex as these are solid, found them cheaper a awesome gti than dealers, splitter from a Leon cupra R, can't recall bump stops part number just called my local seat dealer and asked.

Although you may find http://www.vagcat.com useful for part numbers.

Jus ordered the bumpstops didn't recognise first number apparently fr and cupra have the same bump stop part numbers:6Q0 512 131D £11ish each from main dealer :)

My FKs after a day and a half have started squeaking/creaking ... like a very deep version of "broken/dry windscreen-wiper" noise. Is this normal? :-/

Something's not right, check everything!

Or the lowered suspension has highlighted a problem with something else!

Erm had it fitted at a tyre and suspension specialists locally .... So it won't be that I've not tightened something etc but yeah sounds like I aught to get it checked

You'd be surprised what 'reputable garages' forget to tighten up.
