Retro Gaming anyone ?

Featured Replies

There must be some guys here (maybe over 40 something) still into the retro games ?

I try and visit Funspot in New Hampshire each year as there is a World class videogame tournament there in, what is, the biggest selection of classic arcade games in the World.

It's a great experience, and the surrounding area, Laconia, situated on Lake Winipekause, is beautiful. emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Obviously I play Pac Man, and have competed at a World level for some time now, but what's your game ?

It certainly was ;)

That Pac Man has been to 2 events in the UK now and has been played by the public.

It has also raised £515 for charity :)

If you want to you can play these old games on your PC, with some software called M.A.M.E. (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator).

You'll have to download, install it, then go & find the ROMs for the games.

Brilliant fun if you can get all of the classics.

I was a bit too young to go to the arcades when they were around, but I love my retro consoles. Currently own Atari 2600 "Woody" with loads of games and accessories, Commodore 64, Master System, NES, Megadrive II, SNES, Game Boy, Gamegear.

I want a neo-geo, Colecovision and a dreamcast (for JRPGs).

I also want the new Blaze handheld that's coming out - it's basically a proper handheld console loaded with emulators and a proper ROM marketplace so the IP owners get the money that they should have been getting for years...

Do you mean GameGadget? If so it looks OK, the screen could be a bit bigger and better controls, but not too bad at all.

Although MAME keeps the 'flame' of the classics alive, it's sometimes considered a swear word amongst the classic gaming community.

Problem is, many original cabinets have been stripped out and replaced with a PC and LCD screen. Great if you want that 'arcade' experience, but

there's nothing like playing on an original CRT screen on the original PCB.

Fair enough, they can be a little expensive to restore and maintain, but with a little knowledge and application, they make a great hobby and focal point

in the lounge ! :giggle:

There are much more expensive hobbys (like cars) ;)

i worked for them in london when they 1st started out, they rented floor space from ingersoll in north london then moved to chesunt and finally to a purpose built complex in slough called intercity house if i remember correctly :) started out in the warehouse and progressed to service engineer grand title for putting in diagnostic catridge and seeing what the problem was lol we had one of each current arcade game in the warehouse wired for free play was a great job :)

£700 will rewind you back to 1980 B)

That'll be the one! For a first generation I think it's a great start and it'll be nice to be able to play the retro-tastic stuff on the go without having to use an evil apple device...

The market for original cabs (machines) isn't very vibrant in the current economic cliamate, therefore most of the classics (Pac Man, Defender, Space Invaders, etc)

can be picked up for around that price.

This will indicate a cab that is in good condition. One that has been restored to near 'factory' condition will obviously command a premium.

The place to visit for purchases would be - Jamma+

You need 10 posts to view the classifieds, but if you're into gaming it is THE place to be. B)
