Crunching noise when turning and loud bang

Featured Replies

Hi all, im posting this in general as its more or less a universal problem and im sure its not specific to the Octavia

Over the pass few weeks in noticed a grinding, crunching noise coming from the front end at low speed, i had the same problem with my Mk4 Golf but sold it with before repairing it so never really got round to solving it.

But when driving it last night, i had a car full, 5 adults, and with slight lock on coming out a parking bay there was a nasty bang from the front end, it didt do it again but iv never heard this kind of thing before. Afterwards the car drove fine but this crunching sound could now be heard whatever speed i am doing.

Wishbone bushes or track rod end to blame?

I should mention that the car is used at least once day and my drive is on a slight incline with the a sharpe 'lip' at the top where it meets the pavement and by the time i get to the top the steering is almost in full lock (as i cant come out straight otherwise ill hit bollards)

Also will this be covered with my Skoda warranty? Personally i would class it as a wear and tear part but my local motor factors say it will be covered?

Is it only when there is steering lock on ?

yeah, but say your turning into a junction, 20mph or whatever it will still make the same grinding noise where as before it would only do it at low speed, it may be doing it at higher speed but the tyre noise ect will drown it out.

Also forgot to mention that it now has a nasty bang when going over speed bumps or if i run over anything uneven, i do try to avoid pot holes but some slip the net.

Best get it looked at, pretty difficult to say but sounds like a top mount or spring.

Over the past few weeks I've noticed a grinding, crunching noise coming from the front end at low speed.

That'll be you wiping the nose of your vRS car along the side of the neighbours car :giggle:

Seriously though, it shouldn't be doing it. Another trip back to DM Keith. Try and take it on a cold day so they can witness the cold start issue too

That's more than me (had mine since 11th October) and I have a 150 mile/day commute. That's some mileage you are doing!
