How to get the most out of my VAG COM?

Featured Replies

I bought an official VAGCOM (CAN USB) from Ross Tech 2 years ago for use with my VW Passat and now use it on my Skoda Superb Elegance 2011 2.0 TDI 170bhp DSG.

I don't know a whole lot about car maintenance so it may have been an excessive purchase as all I've used it for is running Auto Scan to check fault codes (which unfortunately was needed frequently on my Passat). From discussion on the forums I can tell that advanced users use the cable and VCDS to modify settings etc. but I haven't been able to figure out what they're changing and how.

Generally speaking, what do people use VAG COM for with Skoda Superb II models? Also, is there a guide for how to go about modifying settings? Thanks.

Depends on what you want from the car really, some things that I may find annoying so wish to change others will have no problem with, off the top of my head just some of the things that can be done on a MKII Superb are:

Seatbelt warning chimes disabled (turned off) both front seats have the sensors.

Alarm chirps*

Selective door unlocking*

Anti hi-jack*

MPG consumption calibrated (generally they are 10% optimistic)

Instrument 'staging' (needle sweep on start up) disabled.

Front fog lights instead on xenon's for CH / LH lights

Large MPH digital display on maxidot

Warning beeps on electric tailgate (estate) disabled

Connection bong for bluetooth disabled (or turned up / down if desired)

Frequency the headlight washers operate can be adjusted

* These can also be changed with the maxidot providing they have previously been enabled.

I have posted several "walk-through's" on some of the above on here.

Accessing sections 17, instruments and 46, central convenience is where most of the little natty changes can be made. :) Usually via the adaption button in each one and going up the channels. Also with a superb you might want to use the long coding helper to change bits and bobs too.

Personally I change most things via long coding, only when there is no option to do that i go searching in the adaptation .... but there is more than 1 way to 'skin a cat'

Anything that is true CANBUS it is IMO easier to do it via the long code

That's my "fabia - no long coding" head on :D
