Tyre Pressure Monitor setting

Featured Replies

My 2011 Superb Elegance 170bhp 2.0 TDI DSG seems to have tyre pressure monitor built in as it has the Set tyre pressure button beside the gear stick. However, the manual just mentions what the warning sign means if it pops up on the dashboard and then directs me to page 199 to find more information on the tyre pressure monitoring system, but that seems to be an incorrect reference as there's no info on that page and I can't find it anywhere.

Is there a way I can set the desired tyre pressure and the tolerance level for warning me if pressure falls below that level? Also, is there a way to check current tyre pressure on the dashboard or Columbus system? I have an official Ross Tech VAG COM cable and VCDS so can use that to make changes if needed. Thanks.

Hi!

You cant monitor real pressure beacuse the system does not measure it. For example peugeot measures via transmittors in tyre, this VAG system has none of those kinda things, thank god :p

It works via abs signal, if some tyre losses pressure it does not roll in the same speed as the others, this will trigger warning.

You cant adjust it anywhere, you just need to reset it after tyre change or after pressure cheking.

Hope this helped :)

You set your desired pressure by setting your tyres then hold down the button until the bong sounds, simples.

Mine went off within days of getting my Superb. "Oh great another electrical thing to go wrong" Until I found a big nail in my tyre!

It has gone off twice more in 18 months, once for another nail and once when towing a caravan which was admittedly front heavy and putting a bit of weight on back of car.

I think it is a great system, I could just do without the nails!

I have had the misfortune of 4 punctures in my three years of Superb ownership, one a slow puncture with which I was able to drive an additional 8,000 miles using the tyre pressure monitoring system as the sensitivity in drop of pressure is only about 5 psi.

Others it was quite evident before the sensor kicked in, but I would never had know about the slow puncture without the aid of the TPMS.

Can someone write down part no for button. I found harness, instructions and VCDS coding on other forums, now I just need button. I don't want to carry around laptop all the time.

Sweet, thanks for that folks, great to know how it works (simple when you know how) and that it works effectively....detecting a 5psi drop in pressure is pretty impressive.

Whereabouts are the pressure sensors located? Reason I ask is so that I know if I need to do anything when it comes to replacing the tyres (e.g. reuse the valves if the sensors are in there?). Is it best to just stick with Skoda dealers for tyre replacements? Seems whenever I get a puncture it's on a long journey at a weekend so it's a case of whatever tyre is available at a place that happens to be open will do, but just want to confirm if there's a reason for sticking with Skoda dealerships for tyres.

The TPMS uses the ABS sensors, so the only hardware needed to retro fit them are the switch and loom.

Because of this the wheels and tyres are normal, so no need to go to Skoda for replacement tyres (who will probably just farm it out to a tyre fitting company anyway!)

Effectively? Hmmm... I'm not so sure. There are plenty of threads on here going on about how it takes at least two miles to detect a change. TWO MILES. You can seriously ruin a perfectly good tyre in two miles.

Some of the threads (from the Yeti section alas but it is the same system):
