2005 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondered if anyone out there can help. I have a 2005 Octavia 19Tdi Elegance which is the newer shape. Local garage said there was a fault with EGR, i believe it was fault code 21. He said he had cleaned it out but the engine management light may come back on. It has 2 weeks later. Asked him to mend it but he said it is hit and miss as to which part is faulty and suggested i run the car as it is. It still runs fine and i did 80 miles yesterday and still get approx 60mpg. I would rather have a repair any suggestions on the first component i should change?

Also reverse bleeps just started to give a constant scream with no display of distance on the screen in the car. Is this common and do you know how it can be fixed?

Many thanks for your assistance, i'm trying to get the repairs done on a budget. Hope you all have a fabby New Year. Rob

Hi rob it is very hard to say what the fault is without doing some tests or having a valid fault code. Code 21 doesnt mean anything if it was a fault with air fuel ignition or emissions it would have PO at the start then 4 other numbers. Can you get someone to scan it for you? Someone that is local and has VCDS there is a list on here or the AA even?

I agree with Taxi above, there are quite a few people with a VCDS scanner in your neck of the woods I believe who will do a scan of your car for a few beer tokens. That should bring up the fault code for the EGR and the one for the parking sensors if there is one. If the sensor controller is giving a constant scream then the first thing to try is to clean the sensors themselves in the rear bumper. IIRC if there is a fault in the sensor controller then when you select reverse it will give a long beep and then nothing.
