Engine Management Light Staying on

Featured Replies

I got in the car to drop my son of this evening and noticed that my engine management light was still on. The car has only done 24k from new and I’ve been the only owner, its never skipped a beat. I generally **** my pants and drove home like that chauffer from “Driving Miss Daisy” so I can’t tell how the engine is doing. At slow speeds is sounded OK.

I’ve done a but of searching and know its going to need a vagcom but I’ve never had the cam belt done so could this be a warning sign. Searches have come back with cam belt timings and various sensors on the way out. I love in the Liverpool and am wondering if I could get any king folk on here out with a vagcom lead over the next couple of days. I’ve put the feelers out for a guy on here but any help or suggestions would be great.

Have a happy new year all!

Your cambelt is due (due to reaching 5 years), but there's no sensor for it so that won't be the cause of your engine light. Too many things it could be though, impossible for anyone on here to guess...

Cheers thanks for the reply now say that end bit "Too mnay things......." in a yoda voice! :giggle:

I'm going to disconnect the battery tommorrow to clear things down and see what I get!

Disconnecting the battery won't clear anything down, in fact it will actually induce more faults.

Ok i'll leave that one out of it and wait for it to be tested, hopefuly some kind sole on here will have a vagcom local. Do you think its OK to drive?

If you add where you are to your profile you may find someone offers.

Should be ok to drive, difficult to say.

Its just a pain happening today, it couldnt of happended when i've been off work and shops/garages open OOohhhhhh No...freaking New years Eve!

Yep that will do the basics

We'll sort it tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be nothing major. Might scan mine while I'm at yours, I've got temperamental MAF sensor fault.

If it's still running fine and got power then it should be ok to drive if needed.

The EML could be on with something as simple as a glow plug knackered !

Scan results.
