Santa Pod 2012 RWYB Street Challenge

Featured Replies

As I didn't manage to make a single trip to Santa Pod last year (bad times!) I've decided I need more of a reason to go! Having a look around the RWYB website they do what is called a "Street Challenge" Street Challenge Section

What is it?

It's a table that tracks your best 1/4 mile time at Pod' over the year and compares you to other people who have joined to take part.

What's the point?

Not only does it make it easier to track your best time but you can see where your car stands in relation to other competitors and also there are prizes for the quickest car.

What do you need?

A street legal car or bike, that really is it! The definition of what constitutes a "street legal car or bike" is at the Race Director's discretion but as a basic guide a vehicle must have a valid MOT and treaded tyres ("treaded tyres" include all DOT & E Marked tyres), completely slick tyres are not allowed. Removal of a headlight for increased airflow, extra wide/narrow tyres, use of race fuel and NOS systems are allowed. You'll also need to be wearing a helmet if your car will be travelling over 110mph at the finish line.

You don't need to have a silly fast car to compete, I see it as a bit of fun, I know I will never have the quickest car there. I'm going to sign up for it and hopefully do 4-5 RWYB days next year.

Anyone else fancy giving it a go? A bit of friendly competition and also can meet some new like minded people :)

Will post this on a couple of forums I'm on, hopefully a few people will fancy a go at this too :)

I did Santa Pod twice last year (2011) in the Fabia.

First visit was good, but 2nd was not due to high winds and some rain.

I am going again on the 24th March with my Nissan if that is of any interest.

It's a RWYB Saturday.

BTW, don't worry about the quickest car prize. The same guy has won it for a few years in something completely bonkers.

I did it a few times in 2010, managed to get some good run ins and only spoiled once by rain.

March 24th was one of the possible dates I was aiming for

I am hoping that by the 24th March the weather conditions will give a better run than earlier dates.

I did the first one in 2009 and 2010 and managed to have alright weather although they took ages to dry the track as it hadn't been used over christmas

I'll have to try and get down for one of theses RWYB days

Definitely mate, it's great fun!

Hoping to get up a few times myself this year with the Rapid and post some more times to beat - CC1526. Should be a couple of us out and hoping to run in the Fueltopia Barrel sprint some more this year too!

SHould be good if there are a few more Skoda on track!

I am hoping to organise a Briskoda stand & day out at the GTI Festival on April 22nd which is more VAG water cooled focussed.

Is that when you'll be attempting to beat 13 seconds?

I'm hoping to be able to go to this emoticon-0148-yes.gif

not been to the pod for about 3 years.......2012 I'm going to make a big effort to get to more shows and events so would be up for a briskoda RWYB day

yeah, although in reality I will be happy just to post a time nicely under my current one. Having a 12 second car isn't that important, plus even if I did somehow manage it, the car will never be a 12 second car in daily driver mode. :)

Well you've only got to shave about 0.1 seconds off your 13.7 to beat mine. :D

Hear you on the daily driver bit, which is why I took the decision to run my car with all the seats etc...
