Bulb Failure warning

Featured Replies

My GL2 has been running OK for about 2 months now and yep I have a warning light.

The Bulb Failure warning light keeps coming on intermittently on my GL2, check all bulbs and they appear to be working. Turn car off and back on the light goes out, then does not come back on again after two seconds of the restart.

Other than just waiting for the offending bulb to fail could the warning light be linked to something else as well?

New car built and sent to docks, due mid Jan.

The number plate lights are often easily missed.

Also the tail lights have two bulbs on each side, so after a quick glance it may look as though all is good when in fact one of the two bulbs might have blown?

Thanks for the reply, had a good look and cannot see any gone.

The warning light has not been on now for some time.

Hi

My Oct 2011 Fabia Greenline Estate has started showing this warning light every now & then

it occurs when I apply the brakes - had the light clusters off & all looks ok , bulbs reseated still occurs a couple of times a week

will now change the brake bulbs :(

I think I've seen something similar on BMWs where it was actually the brake pedal switch that was at fault... the brakes apply but because the switch isn't sending the signal the lights don't come on and thus the car thinks a bulb is out. It can be a PITA to diagnose.

No idea if this is relevant to the Fabia mind.

I never knew the rear lights used 2 bulbs...I did think it was uber bright! :)

I've had this problem pretty much from new on our GL2. The garage currently have a part waiting to be fitted, but I've not found a good time to get it done. They suggested that if that didn't solve it, it might be something earthing in the lighting circuit

I do not think my problem is a bulb.

I think I have found a common link and they are it needs to be raining and I apply the breaks.

Going to work this morning and it was slatting it down and just as I got close to work and had to use the breaks (not for the first time) and the warning light came on. Coming home no rain and no warning light.

To me it does not seem like a bulb issue and until it becomes permanent the dealers going to be hard pressed to replicate the fault.

It sounds to me like there is a poor connection to one bulb / bulbholder which is highlighted in the wet, there was a post about a water leak around the rear light unit and the ventilation port on here a while ago, or the highlevel brake light as there is a recent post about a problem with rain and the alarm sensor on the boot lock.

mmmh ! interesting ! - mine only started after a long stay in a local dealer who was trying to find & fix a very small water leak into the spare wheel well in the estate boot on a 2 week old car

I suspect they had both rear light clusters off & the rear bumper

& maybe come to think of it it may only occur in the rain ( its been so wet lately)

bit a story here :-

took car to a local skoda main agent but not the one I bought car from

they then rang me to say that they had found the source of this leak - my rear parking sensors but claimed they weren't skoda factory fitted so wouldn't be covered by warranty.

I had to call skoda UK to confirm that they were skoda factory fitted which they were!

So as I thought I may have some dodgy sensors I called in only to find that they hadn't even taken the bumper off at this stage

when they eventually told me to collect car ( 9 days later ) I found the sensors not working at all - they hadn't plugged them back up!

took it back I asked to make sure they connect them up the right way around

so when I collected later that day I asked again & workshop supervisor assured me that they had been connected right way around & fully tested

but guess what they were fully reversed - I just could not believe how a Skoda main dealer workshop could be so incompetent - but these are !

still don't know if this leak has been fixed as they didn't give a convincing explanation of any cure they just applied loads of white silicone over the existing seams behind bumper & fitted a new estate door seal

Today noticed water dripping from top of the middle of front passenger door - getting between top of door & the seal!!!!

it was dry this morning when I went to work - no bulb warning lamp fail

tonight - its soaking wet 7 times the warning light came on (once on I tried to stop/start engine to clear warning only for it to come back on )

its definitely the brakes - lamps all working ok !

I had a similar problem on my prevoius Octavia II. Everytime I washed the car the bulb waring light would come on the next day, I checked all of the bulbs and everything was fine. About 2 months after the problem started the nearside front sidelight bulb failed, I replaced it and the fault never ocurred again. I guess the bulb was faulty and was giving dodgy resistances.

Hi Dempsek

did you ever fix your bulb failure dashboard warning light when brakes used in the rain ?

I have same thing & would like to get it fixed

now also have the factory fitted car alarm going off for no reason :(

I did solve my problem and got rid of the GL2 and replaced it with an Elegance that has leaky rear doors.

This is only indirectly related to raining. It seems to be a wiring problem that causes some voltage biasing for the lamp failure sensor when the wiper motor is on and possibly other electrical consumers. When I had that the Skoda dealer first replaced the controller in the dashboard but the problem reappeared the next time it was raining. Going back they said they had now found the problem and it would require some rewiring. Not sure if they just changed some wires or also upgraded something in the controller again but it does work now (well shortly after the error had seemed to come back but this time it was really a bulb that was blown out  ).

Hi Rolf

thanks very much for sharing this information as this happens to my Greenline Estate nearly every time I drive in the rain

well following Rolf's advice I tried the brakes with the windscreen wipers operating and up pops the bulb failure warning light - even though its dry at the moment - tried it several times & fails each time

so its not moisture as Rolf has advised - back to dealer armed with this new info !

Did you ever resolve this and find out what needed replacing?

Yes this issue of the bulb failure warning light illuminating when the brakes were pressed while the windscreen wipers were on was fixed under warranty by a Skoda  main dealer

When I asked what they did they just said they changed a circuit board  after advice from Skoda    - so I guess Skoda must know about the fault

Interesting, I wonder what possible circuit board they replaced?!  I may ask them to fix this when it goes in for service.

many thanks for the reply!!

I never knew they had a bulb failure warning. :)

Please try and get more info out of them on what circuit board they replace.

If it ever happens to mine Ill be looking to repair the board itself.

Cheers.

I’ve been faffing around with my car this week and I may have sourced the problem with my car.  I checked on VCDS and cornering lights are activated and I don’t have them, I think this is what is sending the indicators bulb error signal.  I’ve turned off cornering fog lights and will monitor it this week.
