If Skoda did road bikes

Featured Replies

The new road bike I have ordered must be the cycling equivalent of the Skoda Yeti

Tough, comfortable, handles well, great spec, understated looks & a reasonable (if not cheap) price.

I give you the Genesis Equilibrium 20.

I am almost as excited about getting my hands on it as I was this time last year waiting for my SM.

Happy New Year all!

I'm not sure a road bike would be a good comparison, but my MTB fits the bill nicely. (apart from the photo with the flat tyre, but that was totally my fault for trying to run with less than 10psi in the tyre - the tubeless seal went and I had to put in a spare inner tube to get home. Problem was everything was covered in mud, glorious mudemoticon-0140-rofl.gif)

It is a specialised full suspension mtb which I have built to my spec.

That looks proper offroad!

I also come from a MTB background (I have a Trek 6700 hardtail) so the Genesis will the first ever road bike I have owned.

Yes it is proper muddy off road emoticon-0136-giggle.gif.

I also have a Roberts for road use, but rarely ride on road because off road is soooo much more fun.

I mean, a really good workout, at 3mph emoticon-0140-rofl.gif, back wheel spinning, because my paddles on the Mud X tyres still can't cope with all the gloop, cycling through deep water (common theme here for those that have followed my recent posts in the Yeti) that is also quite muddy. My pal who came with me didn't have such good tyres on and ended up in water up to his shinsemoticon-0140-rofl.gif. He had to walk out through it. Not good. Just got back from that ride. 2 1/2 hours and 17.8 miles, of which about 12 were totally off road, up and down Surrey's finest hills around home. Feeling pleasantly tired and smug for having done it.

Have you got to wait 9 months for it then? :giggle:

MMM, shiny bikes and muddy bikes, good job I'm not the only one cycling through the colder months, i like a bit of the off road stuff and look forward to relocating to somewhere with more open countryside to practice the art of getting filthy... on two wheels. I always seem to spot lots of Yeti's whilst cycling, one nearly knocked me off earlier today, would have been a story! Instead i got knocked off by a dog, its ok though, she was alright!

Not quite but I gather Genesis do struggle to keep up with demand - not a single Evans store had one in stock today!

Well I never.

Can't say I am terribly impressed though - maybe they should stick with cars after all.

I'm not sure if they're still doing them or not actually - that could be a very old brochure :|

I'll check tomorrow and see what the mark up is ;)

I remember being shocked a few years ago at how expensive they were compared to a Giant/Trek equivalent :o

Yeah of course, never expect them to actually sell.

We had an Audi one on a roof rack in the showroom when I was at Wayside, that was a few thousands worth and had a fairly basic spec.

The one I saw at a dealer was on the heavy side. Oh and it had a kick stand as well. I think it was a Skoda one and not an Alfa Romero one.

I like the look of that rear suspension. Looks as if it might actually work without bottoming.

It is very good. It does not react to rider input, so no bobbing up and down, only reacts to bumps on the ground. I like it, as it means I ride a hard tail most of the time, but if the ground is bumpy, it smooths it out. It is Specialized's Brain system. The latest ones are even better. I think mine is from 2006.

I would have gone for a Dawes at that price, much better spec and quite a lot cheaper,( the Skoda one is too) mind you a bike is my main transport so I spend double that

I think I would have gone for a Boardman as they seem very good value and get very goods write-ups.

Where do you put the petrol? :giggle:

I checked stock today out of interest and the bikes were discontinued in 2008.

So they are now a 'collectors' item !!!

(I'll search the rest of the site to see if there is a section just for them, perhaps under 'classic')

I had feeling it was a while ago, but hadn't realised it was that long :|

One part in the history of the Skoda began to manufacturing bicycles by Laurin & Klement 1895. The first car in 1905.
