Was early DSG any good?

Were early cars a development bed and slightly ropey?

Is an '04 DSG box going to impress as much as the gearbox in a new VRS?

Hi

Only ever driven two DSG Octavia, one a new 04 plate on a 1.9TDi, the other on a new 60 plate vRS. Chalk and cheese!

The 04 box was horrible, it seemed to slur between gears, like an old auto box, but the new DSG is a fantastic bit of kit. Very smooth, not without its quirks, as per comments from other members, but I was so impressed I nearly bought my vRS with DSG.

What stopped me? Fear of out of warranty claims re long term reliability. I'm sure the reliability is impressive but didn't want to take the chance, plus driving something like the vRS I preferred the traditional involved drive.

Regards

yeah that's pretty much exactly what i feared.

2004 A3 TDI DSG crossed off my potential shopping list

Email Ali at Unit 18 Clifford - I reckon he'd tell you a different story. I asked him how reliable they were and I think he said he'd never had one in for any problems!

New car on the horizon is it? Don't fancy 150k+ in the red rocket then?

Dunno what point any changes happened, but a mates 06 plate A3 2.0T seems to be ok, he loves it. Never driven it myself though.
