Flashing glowplug

Featured Replies

In the past two days my glow plug symbol has flashed twice while ive been driving, should i worry about this. I have a 2002 octavia 1.9tdi.

Yes, the chances are your brake light switch is not working (so you have no brake lights)

The flashing glow plug light can mean numerous things but the bake light switch is the most common.

IF they however are working correctly then you really need a VCDS or dealer scan to diagnose the fault.

It happened to me (in MKI Fabia vRS) just as I was pulling up at my old dear's house. I thought it was something serious - parked the car up and the rear brake lights were still on. Quickly got on here (fearing the worst) and received very speedy responses (Moggy Tech  and another poster) saying it was almost certainly the brake pedal switch - cost buttons to sort.

Yeah i noticed this morning my brake lights where on as this happened again, got them to go off but do you think it still needs plugging into a machine or should i just contact my local garage for them to replace the brake switch??

replace it yourself and save some money? it takes 5 minutes.

Exactly what happened to mine - if like me, you're mechanically incompetent, I'd just get your friendly local mechanic to change it.

No, if the brake light switch is definitely faulty (they either don't work or are stuck on) then simply swap the switch out.

It is a 5 min job max to do  (closer to 1 min TBH)
