Hi all,

Anybody ad the balls to change a cambelt on a vrs se, mines only done 26k but have been told it needs changing soon or is that just a salesman talking, also, only offered £5,300 for it a dealers, (just curious) guess what I said....., not a mark anywhere, no scratches, bugger all, so have decided to keep, but while I'm here tho, wots the best diagnostic tester to get, the egr lights keeps comming on occasionally, answers on a postcard please... Thanks

Usually it depends on both age/mileage.. I think its about the material perishing and degrading. I think its usually about 60k miles or every 5 years on the octy.. I'd imagine it would be pretty similar to the diesels

VCDS-lite would be ideal.

1. Since SEs were largely sold in 2007 then it should have been done last year at 4 years - mine was done in July. Changing a cambelt on an SE is no different to changing a cambelt on any other late model vRS with the BLT engine and hardly any different I'd expect to the earlier engine.

2. A Skoda dealer will charge around £350 or so - but prices there and elsewhere can be as low as around £199. Since the kit is over £100 you're not saving a great deal having it done professionally if you don't really know what you're doing.

3. I'm not surprised at the relatively low valuation - one reason I still have mine. One on 62k and needing some cosmetic attention has just sold on eBay for £6712. Sounds a pretty healthy price considering dealers will probably be selling around £7-7.5k

4. I've just had an EGR warning light problem - check out my experience and cure here

5. I've been pondering getting a Gendan VagPro - trying to find out what people think here but no one has responded :(

Get the Torque app (Lite version free or Pro version - approx £3 or £4) and from ebay, an ELM OBD bluetooth connector as such as this one OBD for £12
