Fabia II headlamp condensation

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need some freindly advice please regarding condensation/misting on my 07 fabia II N/S headlamp unit.

I was doing some work on it at the weekend and had to remove the indicator bulb from the unit for ease of access. At this point I noticed that the rubber seal that clips over the rear of the sidelight bulb was missing. It must have fell off in the last 3 weeks as it was definately there before.

Anyway, I finished what I was doing, popped the indicator bulb back in, job done (this was New Years Eve by the way).

Today, I have noticed quite a lot of condensation in the unit and it seems to be worse behind the indicator part of the unit so, I'm wondering if it because I had the bulb out for an hour or so and this effectively broke the seal for a bit or, it is because the seal is missing behind the sidelight bulb.

Do the rubber seals actually do anything? I had a feel behind the O/S sidelight bulb and it seems fairly well sealed by the bulb assembly but, I guess it isnt there for fun!

I would really appreciate any advise you could give me on the bulb/seal issue and how to resolve it.

Many thanks!

Vasaline is a good seal lubricant stops the water /dampness getting into the unit. On the other hand if you pop the cover on tight enough it should be ok....:) HTH!!

Hi Leon,

Thanks for the reply, I assume you mean use a touch of vasaline on the rubber seals for the dipped beam and sidelight casings, and the indicator bulb?

Do you think it was the fact I'd had the indicator bulb out for a bit or that the rubber seal is missing to the sidelight casing that has caused it?

Cheers...........

Just on the seals, you don't need to put it on the bulbs, it just stops any moisture entering while its sealed, however you will need to make sure the rubber seal is in place otherwise there will be nothing to keep it air tight :)

The Vaseline, helps stop any gaps even the smallest ones getting moisture through :)

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, when you say ensure the seal is in place are you reffering to the o-ring seal on the indicator bulb fitting or the black rubber seal that fits on the back of the sidelight (this one is missing).

Thanks again for all the help!

The one at the back the black one :)

Go to a vw breakers yard - Google germancarbreakers , you should be able to find a written of fabia hopefully :)

Hi,

Sorted, hairdryer dried out the moisture and got a new seal off tinternet for less than a fiver. Tried the vaseline trick but the seal would'nt stay on, kept slipping off so, wiped it all off and still a bit slippy so smeared a tiny amount of mastic on it and resolved the problem.

Thanks to all for you advice!

Some of you guys love smearing your Vaseline don't you ? ;-)
