Fitting a bumper protection plate.

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, has anyone fitted a bumper protection plate?

I got this one,

http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=KDA710001

They said there is a template for fitting it, but it was another £30 so I didnt bother...

It looks simple enough to do, just two sticky strips to peel and press on. I'm Just after any pointers or things to look out for. Pretty sure I just need to position it symetrically then remove the stickers strips and press on?

Cheers.

If you really need one, fair enough, but I don't like the look of that on the VRS emoticon-0145-shake.gif

I've got one of these on my Roomster - dealer fitted it for £20 IIRC so I let them worry about it :)

Sounds like you've got it covered...I would highly recommend washing the area ur going to apply the strips to with hot soapy water to remove any wax/polish, then wipe the area with IPA to remove any soap/grease residue. Please post up some pics after fitting :)

It's a piece of piddle to fit. Got one on my Greenline II.

Just make sure you get it in the middle with a test run before pulling the sticky strips off.

Yer, I'm not sure wether I will keep it if it sticks out from the boot lid. I do load a mountain bike in and out, but im not convinced the strip will do much for that.

I got this for "free" to use up the rest of the money on a voucher.

Thanks BossFox, as I expected...

I will give it a try when the wind dies down!

Baring in mind it shows up the most on a white car, I don't think mine is too bad...

Hmm, The car needs a clean before I stick it on and there is a lip on the boot sil that it fits snuggly against so no issues of it being in the wrong place. I'm not sure about it on mine?

Doesn't look too bad on a Race Blue vRS, I may consider the protection strip for my own!

Seems quite narrow compared to other bumper protectors I have seen and leaves quite a bit still exposed that could get scratched by something. Was thinking about getting one for mine but a bit dissappointed by how it looks.

You got me thinking with that comment, How about the way it is positioned in the first image? (Its not quite lined up properly, but you get the idea)

The boot sil on the website is not the same as the VRS, http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=KDA710001

An image with the boot closed, again, it isnt quite aligned as it moved when I shut the boot.

I'd be tempted to get a transparent protector. They can be cut to a bespoke size and they're easy to replace when damaged.

That looks much better. Looking at the close up of the original position you had it in there does seem to be a gap underneath the rear end, so I reckon the new position is correct.

Looking at BossFox's pictures the one there may have been fitted in the too forward position as well. MAybe that is correct but the further back looks better.

I think further back will give more protection, and that's what it's there for

i had skoda fit mine on my monte

Something like this might actually provide more protection.

That would be better if you really needed bumper protection.

The plastic one looks naff. Sorry emoticon-0108-speechless.gif

Yep, I am tending to agree with all the comments here :) Im not too sure on the look off it either jonny boy.

I actually have a double bed duvet cover that I cover the bike with, so I hang that over the sill when loading (When I remember to do it) anyway.

I only got this as it took the freebies upto £100 exactly.

Will see what mood I am in when The car gets cleaned next time...

Cheers all.

Brin, don't get me wrong mate, but there are alternatives that can do a similar job.

I had one of these fitted as standard to a Ford C-Max I had. I didn't like that either, but considering that 2 HUGE Italian Spinones were riding in the back and it carried some large objects with the seats removed, it reluctantly had to stay emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

Better? :)

The key is to get the edge as close as possible to where the bumper changes shape and drops away, which is quite easy as there is a ridge in the item that fits into the ridge in the bumper itself that runs along where the boot shutline is.

But looking above the one on the blue car seems to be only half the depth, so you are going to end up with part of the top face of the bumper unprotected.

I got mine from superskoda.

And some nice silver tread plates for all four door sills too.

As you can see in the first pic up the page, it's much less noticable when you are not looking down on it.

Yep that looks better, I think its growing on me again... I will still use the duvet cover over this anyway, so probably isnt a need for it... (Kind of makes this thread pointless, :) sorry.)

Im happy with where to position it now, I will show a few mates today and see what they think of it in the flesh.

---- EDIT ----

verdict is in, I have decided not to stick it on the car :o) Im have swung back to not liking the look of it, and dont think it covers enough of the sill.

Thanks for the comments above all.
