W8 Dome light connection went wrong

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Recently I tried to make the w8 dome light MOD for my Fabia I. The thing is that I have different color codes for my light loom as described on the install guides on the web and I hesitated to destroy the original connector LOL.

It goes Yellow/Brown, Brown, and Red/Brown. I tried different combinations but the most "stable" one is the one pictured in this video.

Anyone has any reference to this color coding so I can re-wire the assembly? I can confirm with my multimeter that the BROWN is ground, lol... and the LED's are connected to pin #1 of the light.

As you can see in the video, the behavior of the buttons is weird, but still works when the doors open, close, and dims.

Cheers and thanks!

Well... In spite that no one stopped by to add a reply on the subject, I had no other option to go to my car and try all possible combinations to make this work.

As previously said, my 2005 6Y Classic has a different color configuration on dome light loom.

If anyone has this, here is the little schematic. The light itself has pin#1 and #6 written on the plastic as a guide.

W8 Light --- Car Loom Color --- Function

PIN

1 --------- Dimmer switch

3 --------- Brown/Yellow ---- GND controlled by ECU (dims or turn off the light)

4 --------- Brown ----------- GND/Chassis

5 --------- Black/Red ------ +12v continuous (Live)

Now all black and white is a lot more easy ;)

Cheers!

I'm sure I saw somewhere that £40 was a dealer price, but that will have been posted a year or two ago. Inflation - maybe £50?

There's a list here http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.passatplus.de/umbauteile/innenleuchte/innenleuchte.htm&ei=9tgMT62fJoLw8QOSs93zBQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=3&sqi=2&ved=0CDcQ7gEwAg&prev=/search%3Fq%3D3U0%2B947%2B105%2B2EN%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D576%26prmd%3Dimvns Not sure how old it is, or if this is someone offering them for this price or not. Price converts to £35.04 for the light unit itself (from Euros). If those prices represent dealer prices, the Skoda Superb versions (green switch illumination with red down light), cost substantially more than the VW equivalents with red switch illumination. It looks like if you get the sunroof version and want the sunroof switch itself to light up, you have to also buy a sunroof switch at almost the same price as the light console.

Edit: price was £34.45 non sunroof version, and £56.59 sunroof version (both excl VAT) at VW dealers in Dec 2010 http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:m7XdnBiYJGEJ:www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D33%26t%3D29873+3B7+947+106+B+2EN&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a
