Bilstein B6 shocks

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I bought a set of Bilstein B6 shocks to replace my tired ones on my vRS.

In the range there is the B6 for OEM height and appearance and then there is the B8 for lowered cars.

Now I want to lower the car and was thinking of getting the H&R -20mm sport springs.

Would you say I would be ok lowering this much on the B6's?

Thanks,

Gavin

Yea...its such minimal drop there shouldn't be any issues.

The b8's will just be stiffer to allow less movement on lowered cars

Schweet!

Thanking you.

You're doing exactly what I'm planning! Bilstein say the B6s are for drops of 0-30mm. Apparently the H&R springs will drop between 15-20mm so I reckon B6s will look and work just about perfectly. And they're a few £ cheaper than the B8s.

Have you fitted them yet? I'd be interested to know how much firmer they feel than OEM. I've ordered those springs but I'm not sure whether to get Bilstein B6 or Koni FSD.

I think the FSDs are a bit softer, but probably the B6s are better quality?

Where did you get the B6s from - the cheapest I've found so far is balancemotorsport for about £540.

Hey- great minds and all! :giggle:

Havent fitted them yet as still am undecided about lowering and I am waiting for lower S3 strut brace from the stealers.

Got mine from a good after market parts place I use, cost me €540 - thats £444, so seems to be a standard price.

Brother in law has a vRS estate with standard springs and FSD's, they were very comfy but very expensive over here.

I can buy the H&R springs with the bilsteins and still have change instead of getting the FSD's!!!!!

If I get it all done before yourself I will post and let you know.

Wow £444 is really good. The best I've found so far is...

B6

35-046370 front £135.74

24-025430 back £89.59

B8

35-046387 front £138.92

24-025447 back £93.21

That's each and without VAT. Other places are between £550-£590. Awesome GTI do the Konis for £486.

Having done a bit more reading in the last hour I think I may find the Bilsteins a little hard so I'm going to stick with plan A which is to fit the H&R springs on my std dampers. If this feels badly under-damped then I can look to change again but hopefully it'll be OK. It's also good to get 4 almost certainly superior springs for the price of just 2 official Skoda ones!

Well the tech they use in the Koni's and B6/8's is for both comfort and performance (within reason).

They fancy inverted inner tube or what ever it is, gives compliance and good road holding... or so they say.

Standard shocks are cheap enough, even bilstein do a standard OEM replacement shock that doesn't punch you and run away with your wallet.

As others have said, you would really be wise to do the shocks whilst you are at it, along with new top mounts and bearing. It would be good preventive maintenance and also in a year or two if/when you need to sell it will make your car the more attractive car!!

If anyone is after Bilstein shocks I'm sure we'll be able to get the best price on them for you.
