Featured Replies

As above anyone running a hybrid turbo but without exhaust and Intercooler etc, just wondering if there would be much difference.

i doubt it it would be a bit staved i reccon

You'd at least need a custom remap.

yh thats what i was thinking

pointless.

why spend all the money on the turbo when you cant get the HP it can give you?

to get decent power from it you only need to start with a

Turbo back zorst (2.5")

Good FMIC

Good Air Intake (CAI or modded Box)

Good Remap

to go on further

LCR Fuel Pump

LCR injectors

4Bar FPR

LCR MAF + TIP 3" CAI

all that = 250+ BHP?

pointless.

 +1 why go to all that trouble buying a new turbo and not seeing any gains unless you mod like mad when you can get the same gains by doing the same to the standard car

Lol some people really need to do research before modding cars. If you ask q,s like this then you cleary should be leaving your car oem !!!!!

Don't worry though your not alone on here lol

Hmm 20 years of modding cars will say I know something!! No what I'm asking is if there is much gains just by replacing the turbo and if it's safe to to so? I say there would be and it would be safe, I get a bonus from work in march which means I can buy the turbo as that is a big expense then all the other bigs can be bought as I go! Sorry should of explained myself more.

P.s my last vrs had 293bhp!!!

Sounds easy when you say it like that!! :D

250bhp with k03s?!? No way mate, 220-225hp is max.

I thought they done that power stock? A hybrid must push more

Backdraftmotorsport do a k04-001 which bolts directly on

I dunno what you'd get from it on its own, i can see your thinking tho

Buy the most expensive then add bits along the way

Send backdraft a email mate , they seem bloody good

Cant see it breaking??? I wouldnt say no to one :)

If you have 20years experience surely you can answer your own question

What wad you running then to get 293???

Just seems a strange q if you know what your doing.

What kind of hybrid would it be? If you have a k04 sized exhaust housing you would at least need a 3" downpipe to match. It would have to have a custom map until you can afford the injectors, fpr etc to keep the boost down so the standard injectors can fuel it, then you'd have to have the map tweaked at a later date.

Just because I have 20 years in modding car doesn't make me a expert I don't do it for a living after all!! My last one had basically the mods listed above but with a gt28rs (I think that was the one) turbo.

The response I have been looking for! It would be a ko4 base one I believe if I go this route, didn't know about needing a 3inch dp on that I was going for a 2.5 all the way!! Yes I do know it will be needed to mapped to keep the fuel right for the time being.

So would sticking a set of s3 injectors in a vrs with the standard turbo make a difference if it was mapped ?

If it has a K04 sized exhaust housing then yeah definately would need a 3" downpipe, and if you're fitting that then you'd have to have a reducer to fit your 2.5" system or just go the whole hog and get a full 3" exhaust system + sports cat from the outset.

If the inlet housing is bigger too (like on the JBS K03S hybrid) then you also need the larger inlet pipework and MAF which will fit to the turbo.

It's do-able but if I did it I would spend a while talking to whoever you want to remap it just so they know exactly what they'll need to do with the map. Ideally you just want it running pretty much like a standard car until you can fit all the other stuff. They might only charge a small fee for updating the map once you get the other bits as you're a repeat customer.

Thing is if it's running like a standard car anyway you might as well keep the turbo in a cupboard while you source the other bits and get it all fitted together.

Is there a difference in the exhaust flange between a k03 and ko3 cause I am running a standard turbo with a 3" exhaust but I intends to uprate once I gather all the bits so will I have to change the flange on my exhaust

Did you buy/own DaveU's old black vRS?

Yes there is a differenc in the o/0. ;)

The KO4 has a different exhaust side to the KO3 so you will need a new down-pipe.

Don't know who that is! If you highlighted the mods as a indication no I put them on myself and removed them when I sold the car on.

Thanks

It's a custom one anyway I would just get them to change the flange

JBS one should fit to the standard manifold and downpipe (but better with their own manifold... although these are sh1te and crack from what I've heard), the JBS one has a bigger intake side though so needs the 3" MAF and inlet pipework
