MOT and Coilovers

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

Bit of a 'nooby' question here, but, what's the crack with the MOT test and Coilovers?

I plan on buying some KW's this week but my MOT is due in a couple of months so is it worth waiting or....

Thanks

As long as they're not broken they're functioning suspension parts that will pass the same as standard parts?

I have just been reading on another forum about a few cars that failed because of them though...

What were they failed for? As long as they're in working order they should be fine. Otherwise I don't see how they could sell them? Unless you expect people to take them off each year or all go to dodgy places?

Mine passed fine last MOT at a Skoda dealer with Weitec coilies on. As I'd expect any car with functioning suspension to do.

I wouldn't worry, as long as they're fitted properly and in working order.

(Unless you're taking the adjusters out and trying to drag the car on the floor - I could imagine some other parts of the car not liking that. But a reasonable drop shouldn't cause a fail)

The cars that failed will have been lowered too much, possible had notched subframes for clearance etc.

If you cant full lock your wheel its an MOT failure iirc other than that Coilovers are not a fail.
