Rear brake discs

Featured Replies

I did my front discs and pads last summer. Easy enough, but found that the pads were handed left-right, after every pothole gave a bit of a pad rattle!

Swapped around and no probe.

Now that my rear discs are very ugly and rusty, I thought I'd replace them. Any nasty surprises to look out for, like handed pads, or special tools? A colleague of mine has an octavia, and he has a tool for winding the rear callipers in - do I need to borrow this tool for the Mk1 Superb?

Many thanks

Yes you do ... and just slightly undo the bleed nipples so that when you wind the piston back in, the displaced fluid has somewhere to easily escape to, rather than trying to work its way back through all the system.

and you don't need to unbolt the carriers to remove the discs, they will pivot out with them in place which makes it nice and easy to wire brush them up before putting the new discs on.

You mean the brake pad carriers? If so, do I assume the pads can come out without the carrier coming off?

Yeah same as the front. You unbolt the caliper (two 13mm bolts) and pull it off the pads, prize out the pads and remove the disc.

Nice one. Thanks. My colleague will lend me the tool for winding the piston back.
