Rear Wiper Octavia estate not wiping properly ?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have a '59 plate Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI Elegance Estate. Over the past few months I've noticed that when activating the rear wiper, it misses part of the glass leaving an odd looking round shaped area right in the middle as if the blade isn't making contact with the glass.

I've replaced the wiper blade with a new one, checked make sure it is seated properly and clip locked but still there is a problem.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced a similar problem and/or any suggestions ?

Many thanks

I have exactly the same problem. Keep on meaning to buy a new one but I don't use it anyway - it switches on automatically of course.

I had the same trouble, bought a new one and it's fine now.

I had same prob with mine from new & dealer fitted a replacement under warranty after only 2 weeks but this only lasted a couple of months & it went the same way again so have just had

to live with it. I have a new estate on order for March so will see what thats like.

Hi I had the same issues, it took the dealer 3 new blades from stock before one worked as advertised !!!

Ditto, big 'smeary' semi-circular arc left after every wipe!

I find keeping the rear screen as clean as possible and a clean with RainX glass cleaner helps. A brand new blade lasted about 2 weeks on mine before it started missing again, but if the screen is clean and treated with RainX I don't really notice.

Same problem here so bent the metal blade holder SLIGHTLY by hand so that more pressure is brought onto the center of the screen. Works well now.

Hope this helps.

Mines the same, will investigate. Whats the deal with the champion blade?

Same here guys! Pain is it not?!

Interestingly i put this wiper on my MK1 and it started doing it when the old wiper didnt. Must be the Aero blades?

I had the same issue. (Posted on a different thread a week or so ago: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/306813-rear-wiper-bloody-annoying/ ).

I purchased the Bosch A400H blade to replace the OEM and (touch wood) it works fine now.

Only problem is on the Bosch blade the 'bull-nose' plastic end trim, which covers the blade's fitting, did not fit flush to the end of the wiper arm, (it was a few mm short and an unsightly gap was evident), therefore I had to unclip the equivalent piece from the OEM blade and fit it to the Bosch blade.

Sorted.

I have a pre-FL MK2 hatch, the rear wiper blades work fine when new but after a few weeks stop working so well leaving two 2" bands 2" from the outside and inside edges of the wipe smudged.

might it be the arm that needs replacing.

I hooked the arm to my electronic luggage scale and it indicates that the arm has a down force of about 540gm (the passenger side front wiper is just over 1kg for comparison)

I noticed that the pressure of the rear wiper arm against the window is weak until you move the blade about half a centimetre away from the window.

1. Removed the plastic bolt cap, cleaned out some dirt and sprayed the hinges with WD40.  Tried the wiper and it worked properly!

2. Replaced the bolt cap.  Tried the wiper and it had gone back to leaving a great big oval bit in the middle of the screen.

3. The bolt cap itself seems to be the problem.  It needs a little judicious trimming / filing, because it gets in the way of the end bits of the arm and stops the arm having enough pressure against the window.

4. Filed a little off in several places where the bolt cap got in the way of the arm.  Eventually this solved the problem.  (I imagine the cleaning and the WD40 helped a bit, too.)

Hi all I had the same problem, did all the recommendations  etc still the same but then I noticed that the arm itself had a small crack around the pivot arm near where it bolts on. So I got a replacement arm off Ebay fitted new arm and bingo problem solved. So check for a little crack it might work for you as it did for me. 16936427110471622882033443033434.thumb.jpg.76bff1d0c11630241d470fb39e1aef52.jpg

Yup, more often than not its the arm broken as in those pics thats the problem and not the wiper blade, or tension spring etc. Been there, wasted much time, but finally got the t-shirt.

Getting the arm off the spine may require the use of a puller because the ally insert is usually corroded and stuck fast.

Yes exactly that it's a bitch to get off but it just pops off with a puller couldn't find mine. So I used a pair of pipe grips put the nut on lose then grips on underside of arm and top of nut squeeze the grips and pop it's off.

When I removed mine of my mk2fl when i had it several years ago to replace,  it broke my puller. Couldn't get it off with molegrips. Had to carefully cut through the alloy collar with a mini hacksaw!! It was well well corroded on the splined shaft.
