312mm brakes installed! But... not happy :-(

Featured Replies

Ok, so I had my brakes fitted but my good mechanic friend and after some confusion he got it all fitted.

Now he did say that he had an issue bleeding the brakes but finally did it.

So driving home, the brakes appear worse than the standard fabia vrs brakes. The biting point is a lot further down and although I'm still beding in, I'm not getting that "instant" improvment other people seem to see once the brakes are changed.

I used this brake fluid:

The car is booked in for a service on Monday with JKM so I might get them to check it over but in the mean time, I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas!

Thanks in advance!

It takes a good 100 miles or so for the brakes to bed in, but I wouldn't have expected them to be worse,,,

We're he brakes bled with a pressure bleeding machine???

Just sounds like a bleeding issue.

Bleeding issue also make sure he didn't crimp you flexis because he will have crushed them.

Thanks for the replies, is it likely that air is still in the brake system thats why it's spong and such a low bite point?

yup, sounds like air in the system, get a stensons eezibleed kit, should be about £20 and bleed them again. It does take a while for them to bed in even when bled properly

Sounds like he's a muppet tbh.

Easy way (as per guide on here) is to unbolt the caliper but leave the hose connected. Fit up the new caliper on its carrier so the fitting is complete and then just swap the line over quickly. No need to clamp the line anyhow, if you then open up the bleed nipple and leave it open until fluid drips out the system has then gravity bled and would be fine.

After that it's just a simple fluid change.

If air is in the system the pedal will pump up.

Thanks for the replies. He is a good mechanic, I'm not sure why he had issues with this.

I'm sure JKM will sort it out on Monday I've got a 250mile round trip this weekend, I hope they hold up!!

If I get JKM to rebleed can they use the same stuff that was in there? it cost me like 22quid and I'm hoping it can be re used if bled properly this time...

I personaly wouldnt, end of the day its a safety matter, 22quid or potentionally a 1 1/2 tonn bullet that wont stop :) hope u get it sorted bud

Has air been let into the top of the system at any stage in the proceedings?

Does Fabia have bleed nipples on the master cylinder like Golf/Octavia etc?

If so, my bet is that's where the air is, easily overlooked.

Mine was ace from the word go....and i just bled them from the help of a friend pumping the pedal, mite be a good idea to bleed the whole system again, start on the rear right, rear left, front right and last front left obv and also bleed about 200 out of each caliper :)

  • 2 months later...

is that the right sequence?

in the haynes manual it says left rear then right rear, Left front right front?

I have this same trouble.  the bite point is down the pedal,  I have changed the fronts and rears too so the entier system needs doing.

Cant the MC be blead? I found the MC on the Octy needed it doing when I put the Brembos on her.  Cant find the nipples on this one tho?

I Have fully blead the system twice and it got a bit better but its still not good.  Will have another go tomoz
