Chris Harris drives an AMG Merc on four SPACE SAVER spare tyres

I have to agree!

When I change from my summers (195/50 R15) to my winters (185/60 R14) the car feels lighter, on it's toes, and dances from corner to corner!!!...Where as on the summers it just grips and steamrollers it way around the corners! Some of this will be down to the rubbers compounds and tread block designs etc as they are different season tyres, but if I can feel the differnce on a small car WTF must it be like on a big car??.... B)

That's brilliant!

He left evo magazine to go and be paid to do stuff like that? God what was he thinking! :D

so less rubber means less grip which is effectiely more power?

Expect a spacesavers shod 500bhp Fabia shortly then

I'm sure I saw a motoring program (Vroom Vroom or something like that) when the did the exact same thing but with something like a Focus. The driver obviously wasn't as experienced as Chris and spun all the time.

I wonder what it would have been like on snow, as I know Rally cars have very skinny tyres when driving on those conditions.

If he can do that kind of driving on space savers I don't think I need worry about temporarily doing 110 / 115mph in a straight line on my space savers :D

I thought most Space Savers have speed restriction of 80k/50 mph. I wonder if the AMG ones are the same or have a higher max speed?

The actual tyres are M-rated which is officially about 90mph from memory. :) Limits are meant to be tested and that AMG sure was testing them! I noticed they had labels on but never got the chance to see what they said.

50mph on the bright yellow labels on the very nice AMG space saver alloys!!!..... :giggle:

Which he didn't exceed. I don't believe that the rear tyres ever turned 50mph faster than the car was going :giggle:

Interesting that he describes less grip as 'better' handling - more fun, yes I don't think many would disagree there but better handling

And since when has 255 been 3x wider than 125??
