Wheel Bearing

Featured Replies

Whilst getting my powder coated spiders reshod with fresh Proxes (these are due to be replaced so numbers are limited in coming into the UK)I explained to the fitter that I had a droning and could he check the wheel bearings? He come in and said all was fine but my rear tyres where stepping on the inside. He said this happens with directional soft tyres on cars with sports suspension.

Is this right?

(I cant complain as these Proxes have done 25k.)

Many Thanks

Wheel bearing is easy to check, just jack the wheel up pull it left to right and see if you can move it. It will be obvious if the bearing is duff.

before movement appears in the wheel, the rattle noise in the car will be allmost insuportable.

Rear tyres if stepped will cause droning.

Best way to check front wheel bearings is to spin the wheel by hand whilst holding the spring, you will feel the bearing grumbling in the spring.
