Why don't you paint it with matte black spray (primer applied first), I've done this for my Roomster, paint lasted 2 year, than I've removed it with solvent.

I don't really like the matte finish and if I paint it in gloss black I'm worried about the colour difference (since I have black car). I just remembered that I do have some old spray paint that I bought last winter in gloss black and a primer for that. I could try that first as it would be a lot cheaper, better?, propably not. I'm still thinking what would be the easiest way.

EDIT: how well does the paint stick to the chrome and when you removed the paint, how was the chrome?

I've not wet sanded the chrome. The primer is vital about longevity of the matte black spray.

After removing it with solvent (paint thinner), chrome was shiny like mirror

I think I'll order the top part with the logo and try to spray the bottom trim. That way the paint diffence doesn't show as much and stone chips don't cause as much havoc.

Well that went well. It doesn't fit, it's about 2-3cm too wide from both ends. Propably the vinyl is now the only choice.

5J0853633B this part. Yeah it seems to be different. This new part was several centimeters longer than the old one. Seems to be really hard to find these kind of parts for the pre-facelift model. So I guess I will go for the vinyl option and try that.

I only know of the MK2 ever having a black pack.

I imagine all MK1 owners had their grill wrapped or painted.
