post collision airbag and seatbelt issues

Featured Replies

I have bought a 2006 Octavia sedan.

Although the car has been in a minor accident, both airbags have deployed and the seat-belts have locked up.

I am sourcing parts for a rebuild and wonder if anyone has done the same?

I can see I will have to replace both airbag units, the cover on the center of the steering wheel and it seems the dashboard too as it now has an unseemly hole torn in it.

Also both front seat-belt units, which seem to be designed as a one crash use unit, clever really.

At this point I have removed the seat-belts and the passenger airbag, I was unstitching the dash but it got dark and it is below zero, so I have buckled and come in to the warm.

Will I need to source any other parts? Does the crash sensor need replacing too? I am thinking there will also need to be a reset on the computer once all is rebuilt. Am I right?

The ECU at the least will need to be cleared, might need replacing. Only time will tell when everything is connected up and the fault codes read off.

You will need to get a new airbag control unit which includes the sensor.

OK, well I have ordered a kit including airbags dash ecu seat belts and steering wheel, that should be a good start. I can ask for the airbag control unit too I guess. Thanks for the advice.

Not sure what a 'dash ecu' is. It could be the airbag control unit as that is located on the floor under the centre of the dash.
