3-4? ... my friend has an A3 1.6 hes got his chiped around 20 more,

I could be wrong.

Just speaking from experience of a lot of other n/a engines when they have theirs chipped, gains have been minimal.

Your friend with a 1.6 hasnt got 20 bhp more, or maybe he has if he also has an induction kit, exhaust and cam work then a custom remap all in all may see 20 bhp, but im sorry to say from a N/A 1.6 you will NOT get 20 bhp from just a remap, as Walkie says - more like 3-7 at a push, think your friend is telling a bit of a lie, of course I maybe miskaten, maybe it was 15 bhp above it's stock figure then on the RR with his 5 bhp increase from a chip it saw 20 bhp above the book BHP figure, but im clutching at straws there mate.

N/A cars dont get hardly any gains from chipping or remapping unless the car has a lot more power to start off with, and even then you'd be lucky to get 15-20 bhp more (and yes were talking about M3's)...
