Welcome to the forums.

The fuel flap will be the cable. Have a look here on how to access it. Usually pops back in place.

Temperature will be the coolant level sensor. The contacts get corroded over time, and in cold weather especially, reports that the coolant is off the bottom of the scale. A new expansion tank is required (around £15)
