Ride height

Featured Replies

I'm considering a 4x4 as my next car (have an aged Fabia vRS currently) and given how good the Skoda has been over the last 6 years, the Yeti appeals.

One of the reasons why I want an SUV is to be sat higher up than normal - so does the Yeti provide a similar ride height to say a Tiguan?

TIA,

Pete.

Pete,

Having suffered a Tiguan for 2 weeks whilst mine was in the bodyshop, yes it is the same.

I found the Yeti is much lighter inside as the windows seem lower, so you actually feel higher.

This is one of the reasons I went for the Yeti, and looked at crossovers in general. As I am 6'4 and need the extra headroom, and a bad back means I don't like crawling out of cars. The Yeti is quite deceptive in size, it looks lower and smaller than other crossovers and 4x4's, but is only usually a few inches at most, I spent a lot of time when test driving trying to get alongside other cars of different sizes such as the Tiguan and qashqai to compare, and whilst some have higher roofs, the driving position seems very similar. If you look on the whatcar website(don't buy the magazine, it seems!) it shows you the dimensions of different cars and you can compare them alongside each other.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the replies.

The use of the term "suffered" is interesting! :) I've been in a Tiguan (as a passenger) and it seemed ok. Obviously you'll favour the Yeti, but I'd be interested in how they differ?

I(we) found that the interior was much more "impossing", in that it was darker and felt more enclosed. The window line is higher up, and the general ambience was "dark". The dash didn't feel as intuitive and I thought less ergodynamic.

The rear doors didn't open as wide, so making getting in slightly more difficult.

The boot was actually smaller than the Yeti's because it is completely enclosed with plastic sides. There are "cupboards" but these have things like the tyre gel in them.

I felt the car rolled more and didn't feel so "connected".

Neither of us liked the electronic hand brake. It felt very gimmicky and not very practical.

As usual Graham, I have to agree with all that.

The ride/seat height of a Yeti is certainly higher than a Fabia/Roomster. I know I have both in the Family.

I'm 6'3" and slide sideways into my Yeti only just going down very slightly; but then I have the seat set on its lowest position.

I had a look at the Tiguan in a showroom before buying my Yeti and found it claustrophobic and very poor for looking out of. I particularly like Yeti for the fact you can see most of the bonnet, not having my forward view ending at the base of the windscreen.
