VW taking the mickey

Featured Replies

Given the cold weather, I asked my local vw garage to quote for an oil & filter change using 507.00 oil. £190!!!!

They obv aren't.sticking to VW fixed pricing.

They wanted £49+vat just for the oil! :o

ouch, oil change (10k) service on my vRS at the local skoda dealer was £85.... it only needs 502 oil though, they put syntium 5000 XS in though, cost £27 , 5W-30 VW 505.01 spec

local motor factor offered me 5l of Comma VW507 00 oil (which he said was made by mobil :wonder: ) for £39?

Wary, but tempted? Opinions on Comma oil? Even if it says VW507 00 on it?

Comma oil, although it meets the 507 specification is not approved by VW. Comma make the oil not Mobil and there was a recent thread on here discussing this very Comma oil where an email was received by Comma confirming the non approval.

Comma buy in chemical components that are produced to VAG spec and claim their 'recipe' meets the 507 spec. They don't submit their finished oil for approval, so we only have their word for it.

Oh right, in that case I'll spend the extra Tenner LOL

Comma have been around for a long time now and are a budget oil but if they say it is to spec then it should be.

You actually get your oil changed by the dealership?

Come on lads i think my mum could change the oil, hardest part is getting them sodding engine covers back on..needless to say in the end my Golf had no engine covers on...still got them in the shed :giggle:

Thats a tad steep like, iv got a service plane on mine, £250 for two services, 2 mot's with mot protection but they want to change the oil every 10k so i do another oil change at 6k

Ema-Jane, not as a rule, no. But sometimes you can get surprising offers for the change cheaper than you can actually buy the oil. I was just checking with VW in case there was a decent price, given that I don't fancy freezing my hands doing an oil change outside in this weather.

Just been looking at Opie's site, and this and this caught my eye.

What's the difference between the Mobil Edge and the Mobil ESP? And is the Fuchs oil like the Comma, i.e. not approved by VW?

Where have you seen these offers?! Oil alone is about £35 and filter about £5, if someone is supplying parts and labour cheaper then that then they aint putting 507 in your car!

Daft question why are you doing it at 6k? Surely it'll make more sense doing it at 5k, otherwise you'll have some oil doing 6k and the new stuff only 4k lol

ha sorry typo, was suppose to put 5 but instead hit 6.

To be honest i think the main dealers are no better then back street garages, they just charge 10 times more, mine was in for a service (service plan) and they have snapped the plastic on the air intake and left grubby marks on the bonnet, was not impressed!

I wouldn't of accepted it back and demanded a wash and repairs lol

I only found it a few days ago and i cant be bothered to drive to york for abit of plastic they will not have in stock, wont be able to anything about or deny all together

I dont like dealership washing my car anyway, the chemicals they use are very harsh, thankfully my car has a good coat of wax so it just wiped straight off

Post like this makes me remember how lucky I am to have unit 18 on my door step.

And a lovely chap like Ali who looks after his regulars ;) (and everyone else of course)

Also make me glad I'm a qualified tech :)

had mine done at unit 18 a few weeks back, £49 in the offer atm, normally £99,

not worth getting cold/dirty and they did it in 1/5th of the time it would have taken me!

I believe Comma were taken over by BP and they supply Halfords.

Skoda dealer in York just quoted £26.80 for supplying "longlife" oil. Just waiting to confirm that's 507 00 oil.....:wonder:
