Today's job

Featured Replies

Managed to get a break in the weather today (kinda) so decided to do the mini service I'd wanted to do since I got the car last month.

Family member works for local VW dealer so picked up all the parts for me at a very low price.

Here's what I had:

First time I'd used the Pela oil extractor - excellent piece of kit and allows you to get the oil usually left in the filter housing and oil cooler.

Also managed to reset the 'insp' spanner on the dash.

Couple of questions about the car:

1. Fan speed increases when reverse gear is selected, is this normal? If so, why does it do it?

2. What is this little lever with 'ON' marked on it, found it in the drivers cubbyhole?

Hi,

The on switch is to allow cool air to the drivers cubby hole, like the glove box when your using cold air through the blower.

I think the fan speed change when reversing is something to do with exhaust fumes however in sure someone will be along to clarify that!

Kirk

indeed goes into recirc mode to stop fumes coming in the car

On button is for warp speed

I guess you didn't read this thread or the owners manual! 'On' button / pull thingy in right hand cubby box

Kirk had the right answers anyway. Fan goes into Recirc mode for reversing. On button is to cool the 'Can Holder'. It's a bit like the dial in the glove box that cools that too.

Yeah read both but thought I'd go to the trouble of taking a pic and asking anyway! :dull:

Thanks for the responses, now I know. Must have missed that section in the owners manual.
