First Scrape

Featured Replies

Yeti returned last night by SWMBO who had reversed in dark, lightly scraping the side of the rear black back lower panel against a sandstone gate post - right opposite where 2 weeks ago I shredded a rear tyre. Lightly but very visibly scored over full length of the side bit of black "plastic". I've made things look somewhat better in appearance using black shoe polish but eventually a replacement rear panel my be called upon when pride gets the better of me. Anyone any idea of the rough cost of replacing that panel (which of course has sensors (ignored last night !!), lights etc therein.

The scratches are surprisingly shallow considering their initial shocking appearance and I would be grateful for any ideas beyond boot polish for a temporary improvement in appearance. I did a very tiny bit of local sanding and got the impression that it might make things worse in appearance - the scratches being a bit too obvious. I'm not expecting a total satisfactory repair solution but taking the dent out of my pride temporarily would be nice.

I've read on various forums that Peanut Butter solves many problems. :o

No guarantees but you can always put it in your toast if it doesn't work.

I can't see it doing any harm, except perhaps to your waistline.

I like Marmite on toast.... :)

You tried one of the Detailers? They seem to know all the tricks of the trade. :giggle:

Um, so the wife ignored the continuous beeping from the rear sensors?

And you are still speaking to her!? :giggle:

She said that all the noise confused her !!

Back to black or peanut butter will clean and shine the abrasion -sand paper will only give a smooth but untextured and therefore glaringly obvious patch. Some of the dent men or smart repairers have mastered the art of mending plastic bumpers and leaving an original textured finish. Try chips away or equivalent.

Yes - many thanks - this I think may be my line of attack.
