Cruise Control?

Featured Replies

So... all you Felicia buffs... was there ever a factory Cruise Control system?

If not, can you retro fit one using parts from the skoda and vw parts bin?

Does anyone have a photo of the back of a speedo? I'm interested to see if Skoda used a VW speedo and therefore it might have the recess (in the back) for the speed sensor...

Fitting pedal switches, ECU, Throttle servo and wiring the lot up are very easy but the speed sensor is a question.

Cheers

I'm not sure, but ...

If you can get the cruise control unit from a Vauxhall Omega - this runs off the speed signal only, and is operated by the switches on the wiper stalk - the stalks are the same as the Skoda ones, and swap right over. Speed signal comes from blue/red wire on the dashboard I think?

It's wired into the switch on the clutch and brake pedal (to cut out the CC), and the control unit sits in the engine bay and is mechanical and operates the throttle (much like the throttle pedal). Very simple setup, I got it working in my Astra in a couple of hours.

the skoda speedo is purely mechanical tho no electrics in there for speed sensing so you would need to fot a speed sensor or something.

Fitting an ABS driveshaft and sensor?

Output from the mechanical speedo and mechanical ABS are very similar (if not identical) signals.

Some of the early golfs used a vacuum based cruise system, but it would be a ball ache to get it to work.

I remember seeing that there is also the option to add a speed sensor to the back of the speedo.

On the continent there was an option to have a trip computer fitted to the felicia. It fitted to the right of the dash clocks in the funny oval kind of shaped panel and it included a sensor that fitted into the back of the speedo and gave an electronic speed signal.

The ABS sensor route might be a better option though.

You could also fit an after market/universal cruise control kit like a Waeco Magic speed.

ah excellent stuff there phil, I may need to add an electronic speed sensor to mine for the 20v ecu.. That is worth a look I think.. Which would also mean that if I added some abs sensors I could also make the in built traction control module work on it too :wonder:

hi there tom i got another slxi that has abs so give me a shout

I'm using polo uprights and I've got all that stuff already including the sensors.

Good plan!

Here's a link to a PDF (in CZ of course) detailin the installation of the trip computer:

Also some more info on how the computer works if you're intrested:

Also while I'm at it some other useful stuff here:

Thanks for the info re speed sensor and Vauxhall Omega stalks.. I'll look into that and the speed sensor.

The vacuum based system is very simple and works very well most of the time. I have run that system on my vehicles for years. The only time it goes wrong is when the seals dry up inside the pedal switches.

Phil, do you know of any links to a wiring diagram for electric heated seats? I'm still looking for that one.

Violet,

Is this the Omega stalk you're referring to?

Yes, that's the one! I thought it was on the wiper side tbh.

I've swapped them over with an Astra and it plugged in fine. They both slide into the slot and plug in, the base bits are identical.

Cruise control unit is located to the right of the inlet:

It's wired into the switch on the clutch and brake pedal (to cut out the CC).........

Does the Felicia have a switch on the clutch pedal?

No there's no switch on the clutch pedal but it would be easy enough to engineer, I would use a second brake light switch and graft that into the pedal box somehow.
