Flat tyre? No mate, the wheel is fubarred

Featured Replies

Had a tyre go flat recently. Took it to a garage today and they are saying the wheel is corroded as it was leaking at the edge of the rim and tyrewall.

The tyres are cheapo Sunny. The wheels (17" Spiders) although 10 years old are in very good condition, no external damage, kerbing, corrosion.

So what gives?

The powder coating is probably lifting and breaking up on the wheel where the tyre bead sits, try getting the powder coating pulled off and tidy up the wheel where the tyre sits or alternatively you can get hold of bead sealer

Could they not just fit a tube, or is this not done anymore

Big no no these days!!

Mine were leaking so they took it off the rim, rubbed some sand paper around the rim and used a liquid rubber sealing stuff when they put it back on

I had a similar issue when I got my vRS in the summer - got the local garage to put on a set of Falkens just before I left for a holiday - when I came back one was flat as a pancake.

Put some air in and went back to the garage - they said there was some corrosion which they cleaned up and re-sealed. Its been fine since - not noticeably different from the other 3.

emoticon-0143-smirk.gif would this be solved when they do refurbs? acid dip or whatever goes on emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

as i think the spiders i have waiting are from a high mileage car

Yeah a fresh refurb (powder coat) will cure it...
