Sticky windscreen labels

Any idea how to remove sticky dealer labels from the rear screen?

I've tried gentle warming, but not much luck so far. I'm wary of pulling the metallic element off the glass, so is there a common dodge - WD40?

Hair dryer usualy works, gentle heat left on long enough and , apply all over and then concentrate on on eedge, genly rmoving as you apply warm air underneath.

For internal stickers, yes - hairdryer works best. But done gently on a fairly cool setting to save the sticker melting.

Then see how much residue you've got left. If it's done slowly you shouldn't have much remaining. Then a few small dabs of WD-40 on a cloth will clear any of that away afterwards.

Some acetone magic maybe? For mine it worked like a charm.

A Stanley blade is pretty good for removing stickers. Then any acetone type product for any sticky residue. Autoglym tar remover works a treat and doesn't leave as strong a smell or is as messy as WD40.

I'd just say a word of warning though: careful with the blade. Today's glass ain't that strong any more.

Thanks for all that, what I meant to emphasise is that I'm worried about the heated rear window elements being displaced :S

I you end up with a sticky residue, lemon juice will remove it.

There are special sticker remover liquids available. The local DIY may be able to help

Peanut butter, smeared thickly over the sticker and allowed to soak is also supposed to work. If not at least you won't go hungry :smirk:

I got the dealer to remove mine before I picked the car up. Maybe ask your dealer because they should have the correct tools for the job. :)

On a slightly different topic, any way to safely remove a patch of windscreen glue fingerprint marks from when the windscreen was originally fitted, which are right in the drivers view.

Can only be seen when driving into the sun and very annoying. I have tried various screen cleaners with no success? Some form of solvent may be needed.

Ken,

If you can find a Bodyshop that uses Worth products see if they have any of their acrylic solvent (forgotten what it's called, Acry something). Put that on a cloth and wipe the mark, but be careful not to get it on any clear plastic!

You "might" find one of the independent windscreen companies has a similar product.

If you were nearer, I have a bit of a similar product in the shed from when I worked for Kent Industries, but they seem to have left the UK market.

It also removes the sticky glue from stickers!

IPA will work on the stickers but not on the window adhesive.

I have just removed the sticker from my rear screen (car six days old), I used Isopropanol Alchohol and it removed the glue easily just give some kitchen paper a good soak.

There is no need to buy it mail order you can buy it from a chemist, although you may need to try more than one. You might find they ask you a few questions to make sure you are not a meths drinker having a change of diet.

I also use it for cleaning computer conections as it removes grime etc without leaving a residue.

I'd get the dealer to do it. It's his advertising on the cheap that's to be removed after all.

I have done this with every new car that I have bought where the dealer had ignored my requests to not stick anything in the windows apart from the tax disc.

Actually the best thing is to ask the dealer not to put any stickers on your car unless they want to pay for avdertising.

At least I did so.

But of course they "forgot" about my request ...
