Home security kit

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of a Swann home surveillance kit won in a competition prize. :D 4 cameras with night vision, monitor and 500gb HD recorder and all the bit to link it all up.

No real use to me so off to ebay we go. Or would it be worth retaining the HD record to link to the telly?? - already have Sky plus on the main TV

Well done.

Why enter a competition if you don't want the prize? I suppose eBay is the answer. Marketing companies have a lot to learn.

I enter lots of free competitions and like to win things! the trick is avoiding all the marketing check boxes - ebay is the answer!

Competition in Computeractive says there is supposed to be a 7" monitor with the prize but haven't been sent this and it is not part of the standard kit as far as I can see. I will email them to see what the score is and get back when I know what I have to sell.

A nice win :)

I'd be interested, but doubt it'll be in my price range having looked at the PCW link!

I've got trade accounts with various CCTV wholesalers, you want to be paying £70-80 per camera and around £500 for the DVR, avoid Maplin B&Q etc.

That kit unfortunately will be cheap crap.

OK, I'd like probably a pair of IP cameras and would like footage to be stored on my server, so no need for a separate DVR I don't think.

What can you recommend?

This kit http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/swann-swdvk-412004-uk-4-camera-surveillance-system-10993770-pdt.html with 4 wired camera and a 500gb DVR

and this 8" colour LCD monitor http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/swann-swdvk-412004-uk-4-camera-surveillance-system-10993770-pdt.html.

Going to stick this lot on ebay unless any briskodians want first chance - any reasonable offer considered.
