Thinking of lowering my vRS

Has anyone got their vRS Lowered? By how much? How does it handle and look? Any pix? Many Thanks :-)

Do a search - its been discussed many times.

I've got a bunch of pics on my blog with my car stock, on eibachs (-20mm), and on weitec coilovers at various heights.

Handling has much more to do with what springs, dampers, ARBs, geometry etc you're running rather than being directly related to the height you're at, but it goes without saying that a lower car will have a lower centre of gravity which will help it go 'round corners.

This is mine fitted with OEM (Eibach) springs and standard shocks. Very happy with the look and handling. As Rob said there is quite a few threads discussing different options (I researched this forum before making my choice).

IMHO lowering is a must even if just for vanity! :giggle:

Yes mate, in a box in the garage...never found out why they didn't work for me...about time for a catch up isn't it?

Thought I might have seen you around the Birmingham Triangle....

Do it Fubar...the springs have settled a touch lower since this picture and 8000 miles...relatively cheap mod too!

Just to add that I'll be soon going down the Eibach progressive spring route on stock shocks. Most likely use APS in Brackley to do the works as they have looked after all my other VAGs in the past. Thanks for the pics falkster :smirk:

See you are in the West Mids Dubbers...have you considered Midland VW in Cannock?...a lot of people swear by them....always seem to be busy.

The springs were £130 from the dealers and fitting (with four wheel alignment) was £170 (non dealer). I think you have the hatch which means the OEM Eibachs are no longer available. I got one of the last sets of estate springs before they too were discontinued.

I had a number of discussions with Moley about springs as he has fitted non OEM Eibachs to his hatch...warranty issues/insurance etc etc. He will tell you he has had no problems.

Agreed.

Going to low will limit suspension travel making handling a lot worse on uneven roads, something we have far to many of these days.

If you go very low consider a sump guard. A friends just holed his sump on a piece of wood lying in the road with a std Mk 1 Octy

if they are for a estate i will be intrested.

You really need to uprate the dampers if you have new lowering springs, the car cannot adapt to quickly enough without them , my car has H=R springs and Koni FSD dampers, new droplinks and anti-roll bar bushes, amazing handling, and my mate says it is like a limousine now :giggle:

No problems so far with speed bumps but I have scraped the front under bumper on a higher than average kerb at Sainsbury.

IMHO 20mm is about right...

I have Eibach pro's and think they are great, give just the right amount of lowering without looking totally stupid.

it does look good not the lowerd look, just looks sporty nothing worse than a car with half a wheel on show.

Agree with this, standard ride is too high but the eibach pros give a nice drop yet don't make car look obviously lowered. Recommend dampers too, fsds are a save bet and give a great ride and much improved handling. I think the ride on standard suspension is very jittery.

Agree with most above. I lowered mine with eibachs pro 20mmm. Ride is a bit jittery (driving in london) , especially with 18" alloys and standard dampers. When dampers give up the ghost will seriously consider Koni FSD's as many swear by them.

But looks so much better with a 20mm drop and is still practical enough to fully use. Had the car fully loaded at Costco's with one the back seats down ....even though it was really low , no scraping of tyres in the arches or anything. B)
