10k service and long life oil

Featured Replies

I had a telephone call from customer services today, regarding my service he explained that I should not have received longlife oil on the 1 st service?, but that's what the dealer stuck in it ? It's a 1.6 crtdi any thoughts on this this is from SUK saying that ? So why put longlife in it , apparently longlife should not be put in until the 20k service ?

It has to have 'longlife' oil as it has a DPF so MUST meet 507.00 spec.

SUK a law upon themselves. Who knows.

A bit mystifying Seb. Dunno if Tech1e is about. Maybe he has some further information regarding this point.

Aye he said longlife at 2nd service ? 20 k strange

The importance of the correct oil really cannot be over stressed. Go with the specification stated in the handbook *exactly*. The suplhur and ash content (or lack of) are critical to the operation of the engine, as said due to the DPF (and EGR).

I've mentioned it before, but case-in-point, Citroen 1.6 HDi engine, incorrect oil used (by main dealer) at a service with 14k on the clock, try £2,500 worth of damage less than 10,000 miles later.

Non 5.07 oil (ie. not long life) results in more ash in the exhaust and the DPF clogging up as the ash cannot be burnt by a regen cycle. All cars fitted with DPF's have to use longlife 5.07 oil regardless of service regime.

I agree but why did 1 of the top guys in SUK say no it should not have longlife until 20k service ?

The same reason why they say you need a new cambelt every 3miles or every 14days. Simple answer is, they have no clue what they're on about. When I was going round dealers and not just skoda, I knew more about every car I looked at than the dealer.

PMSL  sorry to laugh, but this is SOOO true, most places have absolutley no idea whats going on.... I was mildly scared when my vRS had its first service, as every mechanic in the (big) workshop came to look at my engine, like they had never seen one before....

luckily they used the correct (slightly better spec) oil that my car needs but then the mark II fabia vRS only needs 502 on fixed servicing...

they also updated the ECU with the ani misfire map (that many other dealers dont even know exists...)

My 12 day old 1.6 Crtdi was supplied from Skoda with a ltr of 507 spec oil in a nice zip up pouch and the manual states 507 only for all the diesels.

As we have said it will be 507.00. DPF equipped cars use no other oil regardless of model or service regime.... :dull:

As posted 507.00 spec is the only oil that can be used if a DPF is fitted.

My guess is SUK are thinking of the 1.9PD for which 505.01 was standard and 507.00 longlife or maybe other VAG cars with the 1.6CR but no DPF for which another oil specification was standard and 507.00 longlife.

Edit,

I wonder if they looked you up on their database, found your 1.4PD then looked up the oil specification for that rather than your 1.6CR?
