HAD A BIT OF FUN IN THE YETI TODAY

Featured Replies

My dealer had a small off road run today so went along, I used most of the featurs in the off road button and we had some fun.

The pictures are not the best hard to drive and take pictures at the same time.

I thought I recognised it. That is where James took us last year.

A little wetter now the first part of the cutting was full of wet leaves and mud

The wetter and muddier the better.....emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif Those lanes were a doddle for the Yeti, didn't stretch it at all as you will have found out. Great fun though. Must do it again soon. The Yeti copes extremely well with deep mud as I found out at Slindon. The only issues are not enough ground clearance emoticon-0136-giggle.gif. Dunno about 50mm, but here's one at 25mm, that I'm thinking about:

Having checked the tyre size, the extra on the radius is 16.5mm, plus the 25mm body rise hit means a useful 41.5mm lift, which is more in the order I was looking at, giving the Yeti 221.5mm of ground clearanceemoticon-0100-smile.gif, which gives it a useful 21.5mm increase over the Tiguan's 200 mm

Yes. That will do nicely.emoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Looks a lot gentler than the tracks to our friends' house and my 2wd managed it fine so I'm not or surprised you weren't stretched

you just beat me to it. I have been editing my above post. Thanks for the link. Looks promising.

Two words of caution.

1/ From their web site:

Our head office is in Northern Ireland with warehousing and sales offices in Worcester, UK & Dublin, Ireland.

They do not do fitting, they just sell you the bits.

2/

If these are similar to the kits sold for the Freelander they are basically a spacer on the top of the spring mounting, so potentially you will need longer brake flexi-pipes, plus the geometry of the front suspension will need checking after fitting. Also it puts extra strain on all the drive shaft joints, as they may be working beyond their normal angle. Certainly on the Freelander many have reported premature wear and other problems.

Two words of caution.

Thanks for those wise words. It does need looking into and more research.

What about lowing the suspension. Does that have the same problems? Strain in different places etc.

I would attempt to get my local dealer to fit, if they would entertain it.....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif, if after some decent research I decided to go ahead.

Two words of caution.

Well thanks for the words of caution. As I'll be in the Münich area later this year, I was actually looking at getting the kit installed by Delta themselves, with full TÜV certification to satisfy my insurer.

RH,

Don't know about lowering, as it is something I wouldn't contemplate, but potentially yes, it could do the same to the drive joints. I very much doubt your dealer would fit things like this, unless they were Skoda approved; product liability and such!

A,

It is better to ask the insurance company first! At least then if they say "Nay" you haven't wasted your money.

=====================================================

I spent 7 years driving Freelander's off-road, often quite severely, and contemplated doing a body lift, but didn't in the end. To be honest, in most situations they are unneccesary (in my opinion) since they can lead you into positions beyond the capabilities of the vehicle. Having it standard teaches you to "read your route" and to check, in advance, where you are going to go. Invariably there is an "easier" way.

Lowering - the drop on my car is similar to the Greenline, so I very much doubt there'd be any drivetrain issues.

Agreed. TBH I was contemplating someone "slamming" it down, which I'm sure one ex-member here was contemplating doing. :'(

It was more challenging at the top of the cutting but driving and taking photos at the same time so didn't get any of the best bits, + the flash was on on the camera so I was trying to turn that off as well :giggle:
