Starter motor problem.

Featured Replies

My problem is now resolved and due to this site being so helpful when I needed help I thought I would share my experiences with you.The problem started when I returned to my car after work one evening. I had an idea it was the starter motor as I had recently had an alternator and a new battery so was pretty sure this was the problem. The AA bump started me and I drove to the nearest garage which was Halfords. They fitted the starter motor and I picked the car up the following day. When I went to start the car in the car park it was dead!! I had 2 kids in the car all the mechanics gave me various reasons for this happening and then put a new battery on my car and jumped my car from another car. I knew at the time this was not right but I had kids to drop off at after school stuff so drove away. After stopping the engine the car would not start. Back to Halfords it went. New starter motor fitted. They said they thought the starter motor was faulty. 2 weeks later I complain the car is slower to start than it use to be. Fair play to Halford they had it back. They said no problem. Two days later will not start again. The outcome to this story was 3 Starter motors later they had been fitting the wrong ampage starter motor and it kept burning out. Although Halfords did mess up I never paid another penny and I think they ended up putting the very expensive starter on and a new battery with no extra charge. :D

I wouldn't trust Halfords to fit bulbs or wiper blades never mind a starter motor! :giggle:

I am not even sure my local Halfords branch stock alternators.... still a good result in the end, even if there was a lot of pain inbetween. Fitting a replacement alternator on my TDI was a pain in the backside, not sure how hard it is to do on the SDI though.
