"New" VRS

Featured Replies

I have been lurking on these forums for a while but never felt the need to post because I had a boring Mk2 diesel for the past 3 years.

Now I have swapped it for a MK1 VRS as I do most of my mileage in the company car. I think it is worth while to start posting as it is now a toy, not a tool.

It's a 53 Reg with 65K on the clock. The car needs a cambelt/waterpump change and is getting done as part of the deal, also found a boost leak fault code which they've fixed.

I am well chuffed, absolutely love the colour. The condition is leagues ahead of anything else that I have seen. All the other car I have seen are full of swirl marks but I could not see any on this one. The seats also look brand new. It also came with cruise control and sunroof which is a plus.

However, I have learnt a lesson the hard way. I collected it expecting it to be in the same condition as I last seen it being from a trader. Just done the paperwork, jumped in and drove off.

Turns out between me putting a deposit down and collecting it, both the near side alloy's been scratched and they've put 1.5K on the clock! The mechanic who did the cambelt didn't put the insulation/belt cover back correctly and left his woolly hat in the engine bay. It also developed a fluctuating idle which was not there when I first seen it. It is definitely the MAF sensor because it runs better with the sensor unplugged. Hopefully a quick clean will sort it. Only problem now is getting the special 5 sided torx to undo the MAF sensor.

I also understand what you mean by the massive bias towards understeering. I think an RARB will be going on very soon. Also, coming from a Mk2, it feels a little bit strange without the armrest. Do you know where I can get one from?

niceness.. i do like a yellow Rs... B)

Not a trust worth garage then!!!!

Nice car

P.s you will prob req new maf cleaning never works!!

Nice,

I would have a big problem with the fact that they had been driving it since you payed deposit! Where did you get it from? if it was someones private sale then ok but a trader has other cars they can use. thats out of order to me. they could of abused it or anything?

mmmm

Armrest mate, keep looking on ebay or FS section, they pop up once in a while, RARB is a must, 22/24mm whiteline will go well with the std front bar if you dont plan on going all out and doing the latest craze of R32 front end. then the 28mm + is better.

nice car mate,

Enjoy.

Nice, the nearside windscreen wiper does not look like it is sitting flat on the screen?

+1.5k miles is a bit naughty from the trader.

Looks tidy :)

Nice looking car there buddy. Welcome to the MK1 side...

If I bought another VRS think it would be a yellow one.

I am not a lover of the arm rest on a MK1 as they seem to sit too far forward obstructing the hand brake and not in a nice position to use as a rest even when changing gear. Perhaps I am in the minority there.

Also agree with Billy what the Hell, you put a deposit down to hold car and garage still using it and clocking up miles and scratches. You placed a holding despot for the mileage it was, not what it is now. Out of order. Surprised you did not attempt to get money off or something out of them. Certainly a replacement MAF.

+1

Totally agree.

In my book it was not sold as seen, damaged wheels and extra milage. if a garage has a identical model for sale its not unheard of them swapping the wheels around as well.

However apart from that, it does look a nice tidy car, a good basis for sensible mods and long term ownership.

Welcome to Briskoda

Im not sure why you accepted it after that...

Unfortunately, it was a trader, not a proper dealer. Also, I did not just put a deposit down, I paid the full sum as it was only a small amount above the trade in of my old car.

I am not even going to go back and argue as I do not have a leg to stand on. They did write the mileage down when we initially do the deal. I was a bit suspicious because they put 66K on the paperwork when the car only has 65K on the clock but thought they were doing that to save argument when collecting the car. It actually had 66.6 on the clock when I collected it.

The trader seems to be a nice guy and have better cars in his collection to drive round with. I have suspicion that it might be the mechanic who did the cambelt.

It's a lesson learnt and I won't wait 2 weeks to collect my car next time. Saying that, after all that, it is still in better condition than the others that I looked at.

Now it's just the MAF to sort out. As it is an easy job and only about £100 for the sensor, I think I will swap it out myself to save a 60miles round trip.

Looks good. Shame about the trader though, that's kinda dodgy.
