56 Fabia Starting Issues

Featured Replies

Went to start my Skoda Fabia VRs yesterday morning and took a while to get going. The starter motor is moving, and the dash lights are flickering, and eventually starts. Makes a bit of a crunching/grinding noise getting there though.

Once started car seems to drive fine.

Car clueless here

How old is your battery?

Also daft question, but I assume that it was cold. Did you let the glow plug light go out before trying to start?

Had the car two years same battery since I bought it.

Yes, I left it until only a few lights were on the dash. These then flickered.

It was cold yes.

When was the vehicle last driven/started?

Have you checked the load signal wire? To ensure that the battery has been recieveing a charge when in use?

Have you checked the oil level in the engine? Could be lack of lubricant making it harder to start.

Has been driven every day, it happens every time I go to start but is at its worst in the morning.

I don't know what a load signal wire is?

I will recheck the oil levels.

Check if there is a battery light on the dash when the ignition is on (before the engine starts). If not then it's likely the load wire. Just fixed mine and put in a new battery - the power steering wouldn't come on when the engine started unless you rev it to 3k. Only had one or two issues starting it though.

The battery light should be around the middle of the left dial on the dash (mine was off so long I had literally no idea where it should be).
